The other day, I had the pleasure of shooting some Arrojo hair tutorial videos for Joyus, along with my hair stylist, Tim Dueñas. There's nothing better than working with great people - it makes it feel a lot less like work and more like hanging out. Only, you have to say it a few times for the video camera, and try not to knock your glasses off while you're demonstrating how to style your bangs. Speaking of Tim, if you are in need of a great cut and live in/around NYC, book your appointment with Tim Dueñas at Arrojo and tell them to make a note that I sent you. Afterward, I caught up with a couple of friends at lunch, then came back to hang out with Kim and Bobby. We went to Prospect Park, took some pictures and then I changed out of this dress because it was not very forgiving of the food baby I had from my mentioned lunch, nor was it long enough for the Spanx I own. From the afternoon on, it was an oversized sweater day. And that's real life, people.

If I look miserable in this photo, it's because I was on no sleep, probably at my 24 hour mark. I used to be able to stay up all night and function the next day - college, you know, partying and stuff (okay, I was studying or updating my livejournal) - but now I go into Zombie mode. Believe me, I don't want to stay up. Insomnia hit me pretty hard the past few nights. Last night was the first time I was able to 1) get to sleep and 2) actually stay asleep. I've been a little stressed and it affected my sleeping. It also gave me a sweet nosebleed, which made me wonder if I'm just traveling through time like Desmond.

Sickly and stressed no more, I'm off to Tea & Sympathy with Karen and Kim. No more time traveling for me!

makeup monday: la vie en rose

I like being pale but when Winter hits, it's a whole new level of pasty and dull. Gone is that porcelain skin (okay, "porcelain" might be a stretch), making way for its washed out alternate. The combination of cold weather and dry indoor heat is an unpleasant combination, drying out skin and giving it that ghastly appearance. It's important to exfoliate and moisturize to keep your skin hydrated and blotchiness at bay, but to give yourself a little extra glow and restore color to your cheeks via that magic little thing called makeup, read on.

I've been living in these boots, so expect to see them a few more times in the coming week. I can't help it - they're really comfortable. I think I got too used to driving around and only wearing heels at my destination, because now the thought of walking around the city in heels makes my feet cry. Not to say that I won't go back to it (with flats tucked away in my bag), but for right now, it's nice to have a reprieve.

Of course, at the moment I am sick and in bed (these photos are not from today) and the thought of putting shoes on at all makes me want to...go back to sleep. I'm not feeling up to anything other than socks or slippers, today!

In just a couple of weeks, I'll be back in Florida to throw a baby shower for my best friend, Lauren. Kim and I went to Tradewinds Park to scout a location for the outdoor gathering, and came across the perfect spot near lots of trees, a pond and a cute little bridge. I wish I had an excuse for that last photo but I can't remember if I was doing a really stupid looking pose or just tripping over my own foot. Maybe a little of both; they're equal hazards of being pigeon toed and wearing heels all the time.

I don't know if you remember, but there was a time when I barely ever wore accessories. I guess I go through stages, because for a very long time, I wore bracelets all the way up my arm. So high, in fact, that I held my arm out straight because I couldn't bend it. Of course, that was when I was a little kid. When high school came, I went to rainbows and studded belts and myriad pins all over my bags, then to the countless neckties I found at thrift stores - and not in the "cool" Avril way, in the "I'm going to dress like a man" kind of way. I had golf pants and corduroy. Lots of old man, plaid golf pants. I was going for Annie Hall but failed, miserably.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that when it comes to expressing myself, I'm a go big or go home type of gal. I'm rather laid back, until you push me over the edge and I blow up in your face, leaving you wondering, "What the heck just happened?" The same goes for accessorizing: I'm over accessorizing or wearing nothing at all. I used to have the same attitude toward makeup. No makeup or straight up drag queen. But I've come to love the in-between, in terms of getting out the door in a decent amount of time and still looking like a functioning human being. That doesn't mean I can actually function like a human being, but at least I can look like one.

Kidding. I'm really awesome at functioning.

Makeup Monday: Lip Flash

I'm giving my eyes a break from makeup while my right eye's inflammation calms down (hence the sunglasses and profile shot), so I thought this would be a perfect time to try out my new lip colors from Milani. When I first got into makeup, I couldn't afford the MAC I coveted, so I turned to Milani for high impact makeup. Back then, their single shadows were vastly superior to the palettes they offer now, but I still find myself turning to their products when I'm looking for something new (and affordable!) to try out. After a reader wrote to me and suggested I try these Milani Lip Flashes, I went to CVS (full disclosure: I am a paid member of their Beauty Club Beauty Board - but I paid for and used these on my own) and picked up a few different colors to test drive.

I'm pretty happy with them - they're all very shimmery but not gritty, and the colors are beautiful. My favorite is the bright fuchsia 06 Flashy, which is highly pigmented. 07 In A Flash would have been my favorite based on the color, but it's a little glossier and less pigmented than I would like. 03 Flashlight perfectly matches my glasses, which is fun, but I was hoping it would have more of an orange tint (it's a cherry red).

Instead of unpacking my Florida suitcase and repacking for Los Angeles, I just kept everything in its place, give or take a few items (don't worry - it was all clean laundry). Of course, I should have checked the weather and realized it was a slightly different climate, because there were a few days that called for a jacket and something more substantial than shorts - and I got a little bored with the lack of variety. Luckily, my friend Holly came to the rescue with a few new Dee&Ray items (including this leopard dress) to add to my wardrobe, and I borrowed this cute pair of shoes from Kim. Instant new outfit!

I've been back in New York for only a few days and I'm already leaving for LA on Wednesday. I just got back to New York, and I'm leaving for LA on Wednesday. It always feels like my Florida trips fly by, but at least I'll be back in early February to throw my best friend Lauren's baby shower!

The next few posts might look like they were taken from an 80s Lifetime movie, due to the soft glow action. It's not intentional - my brand new lens is broken and I didn't have any others with me. I'm happy to know that at the very least, it was the lens and not the body of the camera. Still, doesn't it seem like every time I'm in Florida, I end up breaking something? My sewing machine, serger, camera, laptop, lens, phone, hand...all of these things were broken on Florida trips. I also got my sister's truck stuck in the mud, once. I really think I'm a walking disaster.

Makeup Monday: Gilded Eye

I bought this gold Aqua Cream months ago, but I only rediscovered it the other day. It somehow got lost in the sea of makeup that consumes my life (I really should find a better way to organize); I end up going back to the same products over and over because I forget about everything else I have. After using this aqua cream again, I doubt I'll forget it again. Whether alone or paired with gold-flecked dark shadow for a metallic smokey eye, this intense, beautiful gold is perfect for a statement eye.

Kim from Eat.Sleep.Wear. was in town to help me with the blogger garage sale for Women In Need (more on that, later!), so I asked her to be my lovely model for this look. Thank you, Kim!

Did you know I still have a bunch of Nashville photos to post? Kim was ready to cut off my fingers if I didn't post some of the photos, so here are some more from our lovely little trip. Blogger Garage Sale For Women In Need!

This Sunday, we're having a blogger garage sale at Arrojo, from 12-4 pm, to raise funds for Women In Need, a New York based organization that houses and helps homeless women and children. They not only provide shelter, but also counseling, rehabilitation, education and all of the tools they need to live independently.

In addition to the blogger garage sale (featuring Kim of Eat Sleep Wear, Helena of Brooklyn Blonde, and of course, Bobby and me - more to be confirmed) we will also have several amazing giveaways from our favorite companies, as a thank you for helping to spread the word through your social media outlets. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to Women In Need.

This organization is near and dear to my heart, and I want to do anything I can to help raise funds and awareness - but I need your help! Any support you can offer is welcome. For my second T.J.Maxx/Marshalls gift guide, I tackled the men's section. Honestly, I have a hard time shopping for the men in my family and usually end up resorting to gift cards. My grandpa is happier with breakfast at his favorite diner than he probably would be with any clothing I get for him. Bobby, however, is a cinch to shop for. I know that I did a good job picking his pieces, because he put that vest and pair of shoes in his closet before I even got the chance to photograph them. And just so you know, I got the shoes at Marshalls - they have an insane shoe section! It's worth it to go to both, because they each get totally different selections and each have a special section: T.J.Maxx has a great jewelry counter and the Runway section (dangerous territory when you're supposed to be shopping for other people, not yourself) and Marshalls has their Shoe MegaShop.

You can't go wrong with classics like leather gloves, a cashmere scarf or a pair of great boat shoes (if you know their size) - and a new wallet is something that a lot of men need but rarely replenish, themselves. When I asked (in this post) what kind of TJ Maxx/Marshalls gift guides you wanted me to feature, the votes were overwhelming in favor of two things: a budget gift guide for Secret Santa exchanges, and one for men. Well, I did both! But while I work on the men's guide, here is the Secret Santa one. For this guide, I wanted to keep everything under $20 and most of it under $10. With the exception of the clutch, everything else was under $10! If you're looking for gifts and you're on a tight budget, T.J.Maxx and Marshalls are the perfect destinations. I actually had a really hard time narrowing it down. I ended up leaving things behind; I found too many great buys!

I did most of my shopping at T.J.Maxx, mainly because I started there and was able to complete my list. It was rather convenient because at the 6th ave location, Marshalls is in the same building! So, I ended up stopping in there anyway, where I picked up the cute little piggy bank (which I ended up keeping for myself) and a pair of shoes for Bobby.

My third (and final) outfit for the Steve Brings It! Holiday Campaign, I took a note from Satine's "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" scene in Moulin Rouge. Of course, I'm not wearing a single diamond, so I'm essentially best friendless, but rhinestones work just fine for me.

What's better than a grandpa cardigan? A grandpa cardigan with elbow patches. Ever since I was in high school, I've been mildly in love with that little detail. It all started because while I was going through my "I think I'm Annie Hall" phase / wearing equestrian gear to school (it sounds way more chic than it actually was - I really just looked like a very awkward boy), my mom gave me one of her corduroy blazers from when she was in high school. In fact, I still have it today - you can see it here. I was already having a bit of a corduroy and velvet blazer moment, but the elbow patches sealed the deal. Plus, I've always loved my mom's hand-me-downs.

It's worth the extra step!

Why is it that I can wear heels all day and be fine, but the day I decide to rely on flats, I end up with aching feet? I guess flats don't automatically equal comfort; especially when you're pigeon toed and your ankles need that extra support. I think next time I'll just wear slippers and call it a day...or keep my heels on.

Meet my new favorite sweater! I love a little bit of color in the colder months; I fell in love as soon as I tried it on. I know a lot of people reserve brighter tones for warmer climate, but there's nothing like a splash of color to brighten up a bleak day. Even though it's quite a statement, I've already worn this sweater two different ways within the first week and plan on wearing it a lot more. I'm one of those girls who plays her favorite songs on repeat.

Makeup Monday: Neon Deluxe

I never sleep in my makeup, except last night. I fell asleep shortly after completing these pictures (at a horrible hour of almost 5 AM) and woke up this morning, with my eye makeup completely intact. The rest of me was a hot mess, but my eyes looked great.

While I don't recommend sleeping in your makeup (I'm looking at you, Kim), I do think this proved how long Urban Decay's makeup lasts - plus, the quality is great. The primer potion keeps shadows from creasing, their shadows are buttery smooth and vibrant, and the liners stay put.

The second outfit I chose for the Steve Brings It Holiday Campaign was inspired by Harold Zidler, the owner of Moulin Rouge (you can see my first outfit here). When they asked me to create a party playlist for this theme, I thought of the overall message of the movie:

After our little Nashville trip, I headed down to Florida to surprise my little sister, Tessa, on her sixteenth birthday. Since it was so close to Thanksgiving and my older sister Nicole's thirtieth birthday, I decided to stay through the week. I can't picture myself living in Florida anymore, but I visit as often as I can. I'm very close to my family and I'm lucky that even though I live far away, I get to spend a lot of time with them. When I'm not in New York, I make it my duty to seek out as many vintage and thrift stores as possible. We have them, as well, but they're often either overpriced or heavily picked through. We shopped at several stores, but I decided to limit my purchases, since my suitcase was already pretty full. I ended up picking up more than I intended: a couple of vintage bags, a dress, a sweater, the Simple Twist ring (handmade by my cousin's friend) I'm wearing in these photographs, and a necklace for my sister Amanda. Good thing Bobby bought me a luggage scale - I was able to tell how much I could pack without going overweight. I'm not a light packer.

My favorite find while in Nashville was undoubtedly this purse with the golden horse. I think of my little Shawny every time I wear it. Anything that reminds me of him is automatically a favorite.

We had such a fantastic stay there - the staff was beyond helpful and friendly, and I loved that the hotel is eco friendly and pet friendly (maybe next time I'll bring little Miku along). Plus, the showers are super fancy, and if you ask where the sleeper sofa is from, an employee will literally lift it up to find the tag (it was underneath, not under the cushions) and then research the company and get the number for you (true story). I'll be making a list of all of the places we went - let's be honest, it's mostly food and shops - but I figured the best place to start was with the hotel. If you're ever in Nashville, I highly recommend it!

I planned on having Makeup Monday ready for today, but with the traveling, my little sister's 16th birthday, and an unexpected trip to the vet with Little Little (my sister's kitty), I haven't had a chance to get it done! Kim and I are currently in Nashville! We spent the first night with my cousin Claudia and her husband Mark at their beautiful house, with their pretty little pup named Presley. Isn't she cute? I kind of want to steal her, but my cousin won't let me. So rude!

We're spending the next few nights at Hutton Hotel, which is my new favorite hotel. We had an overwhelming number of people recommend this spot (thank you!) and we are definitely enjoying it so far. We also hit up several vintage shops you mentioned and ate delicious food at Loveless Cafe and Burger Up. You all have given us amazing tips, so if any of you have any other gems to share, we're all ears.

I'll post more of our full outfits later, but in the meantime I just wanted to drop by and say thanks for helping us plan out this trip. We want to make the most of our short stay and so far, it has been great. It also doesn't hurt that we're in amazing company.

I partnered with Steve Madden for the Steve Brings It Holiday Campaign, and I couldn't be more excited about my assigned theme - Moulin Rouge! If you knew me in high school, you might remember I was borderline obsessed with that movie. I even dressed as Satine for our school's parade (our drama club picked Moulin Rouge as our float theme), and my friends and I would ride around in Jason's car and listen/sing to the soundtrack. Yeah, we theatre kids were really cool.

This first look was inspired by Satine's peignoir, from the scene where she first meets Christian (and thinks he is the Duke). It's natural to dress to impress others, or even at the opposite end of the spectrum, to repel them as an act of mild rebellion. But at the end of the day, you're the one stuck wearing the clothes. Whenever I'm in a rush or having one of those silly "I have nothing to wear" moments - which is often, despite my overflowing closets - I tend to grab a dress and this jacket. See here, here, here, and here for examples. It's my dressed up version of jeans and a t-shirt, a usual go-to. I only recently received this dress, but I can already see it being worn over and over. I hate to use the term "remixed," because heck, shouldn't all of your clothes be in steady rotation? My favorite part is seeing how they spell my name; I rarely offer the correct spelling, because it's more fun that way. When I was a kid, I used to get annoyed at people who constantly mispronounced my name, but now that I'm an older and more patient adult (this is actually a total lie), I don't mind. People call me Keeko, Cocoa, Kiko (pronounce kEYEko), sometimes even Kayla. I don't even notice, anymore. If you have an unusual name - and I know it's common in Japan, but not the in the states - you have to expect it. For the record, it's Keiko and it's pronounced Cake-oh. But you can call me Keeko, if you want. I can't hear you through your computer, anyway.

Just don't do it in front of my mom. She might cut you.

Makeup Monday: Makeup with or without Glasses

I'm frequently asked how my beauty routine changed when I started wearing glasses, but the truth is, it hasn't. The amount of requests for "eye makeup you can wear with glasses" made me wonder if I was doing something wrong by not changing up my eye makeup. Truly, I just do my eye makeup and then put my glasses on...simple as that! The only thing I change when I wear glasses is the height of the color - I usually keep it only on the lid, not too far above the crease. But do away with color? Absolutely not! Who says you can't wear color and glasses at the same time? Certainly not this girl.

I like this pairing of bold eyes and lips because they're in the same color family, which makes it less distracting. It also takes about five minutes from start to finish, and can be done in the back of a cab. Hey, if I can put on liquid liner in a moving vehicle, you can pat a little eyeshadow on your lids and blend. I have faith in you! But really, it might be less stressful if you try this at home and not in the back of a cab. I only suggested it to emphasize how easy this look is. Look ma, no hands!

This weekend, we took a trip to Philly to celebrate Kim's birthday. It was also my sister Amanda's birthday, and two days before that was my best friend Lauren's birthday - and today, Halloween, is Roxy Mae's birthday! So many October birthdays, so many excuses to eat candy.

Bobby was unable to take off work for the weekend, but Helena kept me company on the drive over. We were driving through slushy snowfall, so the usual two hour drive took us almost four hours. Still, it was totally worth it; we had such a blast. I have the videos to prove it. Being the only sober one at a party has its perks;)

I originally bought a bolt of this fabric for completely different intentions, but it sat in my office so long that I forgot what those intentions were. Instead, I made a short-sleeve blanket sweater for layering. I made it in three colors: red, as seen here, grey and white plaid and an oatmeal pattern. I have a mild allergy to wool but my neck must have developed some sort of tolerance, because this didn't seem to bother me. Believe me when I say that no one is more anxious than I am to get my site back up; we had some setbacks that delayed the relaunch quite a bit but everything seems to be back on track! I'm setting up a photo shoot with a lovely friend of mine and a photographer I've worked with before; I'm pretty excited about that.

As for this little sweater - I've decided to make them to order, since they take up quite a bit of room on the rack and it's already full. I'm thinking of doing a pre-sale on these (still have to photograph the other two options) and a few one of a kinds I have on hand, if there's any interest. What do you think?

It has been raining every single night, for the past month.
Well, not exactly.
Bobby has become obsessed with Rainy Mood; it helps put him to sleep. I get it, because I used to do the same thing when I was in middle and high school. The problem? It makes it very difficult to wake up. It also makes me think it is actually raining outside, and I wake up very confused.

That being said, it did actually rain on this day - and though this is completely unrelated, the shoes hurt like a b****.

Chaps Styling Event

Chaps invited Christine, Aly and me to their showroom and asked us to bring along the men in our life, for a little styling session. It's not often that the men are the fashion focal point, so needless to say, we were on board! Aly brought her friend Nick, Christine brought stand-in boyfriend Landon ("A" was working and unable to attend) and I, of course, brought Bobby.

We took a look at their inspiration boards, had a handsome model demonstrate the fit of everything and then it was time to choose pieces to make and outfit. I was excited to dress Bobby but being that he has a very strong sense of how he likes to dress, he promptly (and politely, because he doesn't know how to be anything but) ditched me and picked out the clothes himself. Smart boy - I would've done the same thing, though I probably wouldn't have been as nice about it (I'm feisty). I relegated myself to the cheese tray and let him do his thing. We were leaving for Florida directly after the event and I had to prepare for my vehicular hibernation. I have priorities.

He has since worn two outfits of his choosing from the Chaps collection, and I must say, he did a nice job. I'll wait to post pictures until he posts on his own blog. I can't wait to see what the other guys (or their respective gals) chose. Which leads to me to the question: do you dress the man in your life, or does he dress himself? I think we all know my answer - though I'm sure a lot of people would be surprised to find out that it's all Bobby!

I have a habit of using birthday or Christmas money for necessities or just putting it in my bank account. I find nothing wrong with it, but I do think it bothers my family a little bit when their intent was to provide me with a gift - not groceries. I was having this conversation with Helena not long ago. She, too, had the same tendency. Since my family sent me handy gift cards this year, I decided to treat them as such and actually get myself a gift. With my gift cards combined, I picked out this fun, petal-fringed vest from The Outnet. It's something I would normally admire and not purchase - but now that I have it, I have already worn it twice. What, you don't stand around with your hand held awkwardly against your face? That's just me? I was just trying to be smooth and show off my nails. When I'm in Florida, I have Amanda (my sister) do my nails. She helped me with water marbling and I tried to get her to use my trick for colorful nail tips. She does it freehand; I cheat and use the stencil strips. I couldn't convince her, but I left a pack at her house just in case she decides to change her mind.

Here's another set of photos from Elie Tahari's ETC, when I made a diary of my day. Naturally, I couldn't have a Sunday without brunch at one of my favorite spots in Park Slope - it's a cute little spot with a nice outdoor area, slightly tucked away from the busier avenue. Not that Park Slope is all that hectic. One of the things I love about my neighborhood is how calm it is, in comparison to the rest of the city. It provides a nice balance! What's your neighborhood like?

Water Marbling Tutorial

I've never been adept at painting my nails, nor have I frequented salons. With sewing and using scissors constantly, my nails are left a mess. However, since I've started wearing more accessories, I've been into keeping my nails looking somewhat presentable. When I'm in Florida, I call on my sister, Amanda, to do my nails. When I asked her what she knew about water marbling (I've recently become mildly obsessed), she agreed to do a step by step tutorial for my readers. Keep reading for step by step instructions on how to achieve this effect!

Gather all of your tools. I forgot to list top coat, but that should also be included. You'll need at least two colors of polish (any colors) to do your water marble. If you don't have an orange stick, a toothpick or the handle of a thin paint brush will also do. If you don't have a brush to clean up around your nail, a q-tip will work.

I chose a white polish as my first coat before marbling, because it makes the colors pop.

The bigger the bullseye, the better. Keep adding polish and it will continue to spread across the water.

Do this quickly, before the polish dries. Drag the orange stick very lightly through the polish, not into the water.

It might take a bit of practice to make it perfect but once you have the hang of it, it's a lot of fun and easy to do!

p.s. For the other water marbled nail, we used just the yellow and pink, skipping the black.

This is what we look like after driving straight through from New York to Florida. Of course, I slept almost the entire way (can't help it). I can't stay awake in a car for longer than an hour, unless I'm driving - and I can't drive a manual. Miku slept a lot of the way, too. She can't even drive an automatic, so she's even worse than I am.

Bobby is already on his way back but I'm in Florida a couple more days. And you better believe I'm going to sleep through that two and a half hour flight, too.

I'm spending time with my family in Florida, at the moment - I finally got to meet my newborn little nephew, Ryder! You might notice that these pictures are from New York - I certainly have no reason for tights and a scarf (even a lightweight one) while in South Florida. Though the thrifting in NYC is dismal at best, I've always found a reliable friend in Etsy. I obviously have an affinity for capes, which has only grown over the years. It's like wearing a blanket, only it's more socially and fashionably acceptable to don outside of the house. I wear that camel-colored cape (my mom's dumpster diving find, I might add) with just about everything and needed more to put in rotation, so I turned to Shopbop for ideas. And then I saw the price tag and remembered why I usually shop their sale section or merely save the pictures for inspiration...so, I went and found this one on Etsy. It's completely different from the one I was envisioning, but you know what? I think I like it even more.

Recreate the Runway: MAC for Katie Gallagher

Products: Mineralize Skinfinish Natural (and brush to apply), basic red pigment, lash mixing medium, basic red Chromagraphic pencil, Lasting Lust pro longwear lipcolour

As mentioned in my previous post, I was really excited to recreate this look. What's great about this is that it takes barely any time, from start to finish. Do your normal face routine, dust with mineralize skinfinish to make your skin matte and follow the instructions below.

Note: If I had to do it all over again, I would use lash primer. If you have dark lashes, this is a must! I did this in the middle of last night and couldn't find mine, so you'll have to imagine that my lashes are brighter, thicker, longer...generally more awesome than they really are.

Backstage Beauty: MAC for Katie Gallagher

I was more excited about Katie Gallagher than any show of the week; I knew the hair and makeup would be one of my favorites. As much as I love a beautiful, faux au naturel look on the runway, you can only do so many variations before wanting something with a little more edge. Plus, you will come to realize that the "no makeup" makeup is harder to master and involves more products than most looks. I will recreate that, later - I'm coming for you, Billy Reid!

Enter MAC for Katie Gallagher. As soon as head makeup artist Javier Romero (pictured above) described his inspiration for this look, I knew it would be a favorite. "A bloodline - I imagined what it would look like if she dipped her features in blood." A cleaned up version of that, indeed - no Carrie remakes were in sight. The look is deceptively simple: red lips, red liner, red mascara (which was custom mixed from red pigment and lash mixing medium), and matte skin. I became mildy obsessed with one particular girl's look with her platinum blonde hair, porcelain skin and septum piercing - quite a different look from the one she portrayed here, isn't it? Javier seemed to favor her, as well, which prompted my question, "How would you describe the girl you transformed them into?" He paused for a second and replied, "How would you describe her? I might steal your answer." "She looks like someone who could stomp you into the ground," I decided. Javier agreed; both he and the model laughed. Maybe she was a little less tough than the makeup and clothing let on, but I doubt many people would test that theory. What a bunch of bada** looking girls.

I don't own a full length mirror. I'd love to act like it's because I'm not self aware, but considering that my blogging hobby/side job is the epitome of just that...I'll just tell you the truth. My freaking cats broke two, already. Those cats get crazy at night and bounce off the walls. Literally, not figuratively. Hence, the fallen mirrors and now, a broken ledge on their enormous cat condo. I'm not willing to risk any abscesses just to indulge myself in a daily, "How do I look?"

Instead, I end up walking out of the house looking kind of silly, every once in awhile (or maybe more frequently, depending on your opinion). With the absence of a mirror large enough to see more than my upper half, I make the mistake of asking Bobby if I look okay - and he always, always says I look great. This is not a knee-jerk reaction he learned in boyfriend training, nor is it because he truly thinks I always look great. It's because he wants to get the heck to wherever we are going and is not willing to give me the opportunity to change my outfit. I know this because I do the same thing to Kim all the time.

Kim, I'm kidding. Or am I?

Regardless, I met my friends for dinner on this particular day and ended up making a poor sock and footwear decision. I do love these boots, but they do not work with this outfit.

And that is the long-winded story about how I don't own a full length mirror. The end.

Makeup Monday: Cheap Thrills and Quick Changes

When it comes to drugstore brands, I'm a bit of a Revlon fan girl. I'm particularly fond of their lipsticks, which come in a bajillion (give or take a few) shades and finishes. I'm a lipstick girl for more than one reason, but mostly, I love that it can change your look in just one step! Since becoming a CVS Beauty Board member, I've probably been spending a little too much time in their makeup aisle. I only recommend products I actually use and stand by, so naturally I have to try everything out. I've found a slew of new favorites (and a couple of misses, which I promptly returned) in the Revlon lipstick section alone, which I have showcased in the pictures above.

Isn't it crazy how just one swipe of lipstick can completely change your look? I'm wearing the same face and eye makeup in each (though the lighting is different in a few). What's your favorite lipstick of the moment?

As a member of the CVS Beauty Club Beauty Board, I had the pleasure of meeting and having lunch with Salma Hayek, the creator of Nuance (see my post on Nuance here). Though I already read how involved Salma was in developing her line of cosmetics, haircare and skincare, it became even clearer to me how much of her heart and soul she poured into this collection. When I say this lady knows her stuff, I mean she knows every ingredient that goes into each product and what its benefits are - and might even have a personal story to go along with it. I was blown away and incredibly inspired. She could have just slapped her name on it and called it a day but instead, she spent years ensuring that everything was just so.

When one of the attendees asked her what product she would recommend for every woman, she answered very honestly that it completely depends on the woman's needs and preferences. There were no one-size-fits-all products, and that's why she offered such an expansive variety. Ladies, if you want to bring the men in, wear an animal themed sweater. I've found the secret.

There's something about a giraffe sweater that people simply cannot resist. I think I got more compliments on this kooky sweater than I ever have on anything else. I actually had a guy whistle at me. I was wearing a giraffe sweater and I got whistled at - which never happens in my normal life. The most I usually get is, "Hey you, move out of the way so I can see your hot friend!" True story. I like to think it's because I put out a cat-call-and-I'll-cut-you vibe. I also do not wear nearly enough giraffe sweaters.

Man-magnetism aside, my friend Vanessa's comment was the best of the day: "I think it's adorable. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing it, but it's adorable."

Clearly, she is just upset that it is vintage and therefore not readily available for her own closet. Her birthday is coming up...maybe I can track one down for her. A kitty themed one, perhaps?

DVF

A group of us (Christine, Lindsey, Helena, Tess and myself) were invited (by Refinery29) to the DVF SoHo store for a little dress up time.
