Outfit Details:
coat - BB Dakota
Cameo shirt dress - Need Supply
boots - c/o Alberto Fermani
Candace bag - c/o Coach
scarf - Zara
hat - Steven Alan
Elizabeth and James Lafayette sunglasses - Shopbop

It's strange how much use I've gotten out of such a busy scarf; I wear it more than any of the solid ones I own. At a whopping $10 on the sale rack at Zara, I think I got my money's worth. Don't forget to check the sales rack, kids!

Make a Scene + French Connection Save the Date!

I'm teaming up with French Connection for a really fun event on April 4th (save the date!), and in honor of that, I put together a little video for their "Make a Scene" contest. You can make your own - it takes just a few minutes - and share it for a chance to win one of eight prizes. The grand prize winner will win a trip to Sydney, with a ten night stay in a four star hotel, a yacht trip, and a shopping spree in their store. See here for contest and prize details. Take me with you?

In the meantime, French Connection is putting together the final details for the event I'll be co-hosting on April 4th from 6-9 in SoHo, and we need your help! Elizabeth Monson of Move Slightly designed some incredible nail art inspired by the French Connection collection, and we want you to pick your favorite. Valley NYC will be giving complimentary manicures of the most repinned design. Please take a second to repin your favorite - and stop by the store on April 4th from 6-9 for a night of nail art, bubbly, gift bags, and fashion with us!

Current Vintage

Outfit Details:
vintage red cape - Dronning Vintage
striped top - Madewell
lace shorts (old) - Madewell
over the knee socks - HUE
Legacy Duffle - c/o Coach
Late Night Platforms (on sale) - c/o Seychelles
scalloped tights - ModCloth
Elizabeth and James Lafayette sunglasses - ShopBop
MAC Russian Red lipstick

There are certain things that will stay in my closet forever, and most of them are vintage. I only bought this little cape a year and a half or so ago, but it's one of those special standouts that will probably make the cut each time I clean out my closet. I have some vintage pieces that have stayed with me since high school, and have been known to keep some of my elementary school shirts around (ahem, NKOTB and a Margate Panthers shirt). It's strange to think that one day we'll look back on today's clothing and label it "vintage" - isn't it? Are there any pieces in your current closet that you think you'll keep around for the long term?

Perfect Pair.

Outfit Details:
floral blazer - thrifted
Daydreamer LA peplum shirt - Urban Outfitters (on sale now)
mint lace skirt - Urban Outfitters
pink suede pumps - J.Crew
Mimosa clutch - c/o DVF
glasses - Ray-Ban RB5226

I couldn't fit the shoes into the outfit pictures (fixed lens, small room), but they had to be shown with that clutch. I'm not one to fixate on matching my shoes and my bag - though I've been known to do that with my lipstick - but these two were a match made in heaven.

Makeup Monday: Red Lips Forever

Top two photos: Backstage with MAC at Kenneth Cole. Third photo: Backstage with MAC at Zac Posen. Last photo: Model at Alice and Olivia, makeup by Stila.

It's no secret that I'm crazy about a red lip. I used to be all about a statement eye; smokey eyes were my signature when I was in my early 20s. But sensitive skin/eyes forced me to ease up on such frequent use of shadow and loads of liner, so I discovered a new main love for instant impact: bold lipstick. Red, in particular, makes me feel instantly pulled together - even on days when I feel like forgoing eye makeup completely. I have an arsenal of reds, and since seeing the perfect ombre red lip rendition at Kenneth Cole, I've been mixing darks and brights and doubling up on lip liners to recreate the dimensional look (I'll post a tutorial, if you want). But we all have our favorites, and my most used tube in the bunch is MAC Russian Red: it's matte but not too dry, cool but not too blue, and lasts forever.

The hunt for the perfect red lipstick seems to be a popular topic with strong opinions, so now I want to know: What's your favorite red lipstick?

give me spring

Tadashi Shoji dress (c/o), vintage jacket, thrifted belt, Ray-Ban glasses (RB5226). Lipstick: Bobbi Brown Rose, layered with Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color from the Glinda Palette

Something old, something new. Something thrifted, something...purple. I didn't really have a reason to dress up, but I did have a reason to go bare legged in New Orleans: weather in the 70s. I would really love for Spring to make its presence known up here - I'm getting tired of the Winter blues. Give me sunshine, give me flowers, give me some goshdarn color in my pasty, blotchy legs.

Romantic Rights

Outfit Details (photos by Kim):
Trina Turk coat (c/o)
red lace dress - c/o Free People
thrifted belt
Shoemint heels (on sale)
Coach Legacy Leather Duffle (c/o)
Sorrelli jewelry (c/o)
vintage floral fascinator
MAC Pink Pigeon lipstick (limited edition - try Girl About Town, Love Forever! or Candy Yum-Yum for other bright pinks)

Remember when I told you I didn't get to wear my Valentine's Day outfit because I was sick? Well, as you can see, I wore it anyway - I just waited until I was feeling up to leaving the apartment. Sure, it wasn't Valentine's Day anymore (though it was only a few days later - I'm late with these), but an outfit this theme-y is going to get some weird looks no matter what and by golly, I really wanted to wear it. A girl has rights! My friends are pretty used to my abnormal dress code, which can range anywhere from cutoffs for any occasion (are formal cutoffs a thing, yet?) to dressing like a storybook character who has animal friends helping out around the house and braiding her hair in the mornings. Naturally, none of them batted an eye when I showed up in this wackadoo outfit to drive us to Pennsylvania. I mean, who doesn't wear a floral fascinator for a road trip?

I know Kimbly is with me on that one. It's practically our road trip dress code.

Makeup Monday: Lemon Lime Sugar

Products used (left to right, top to bottom): Urban Decay Primer Potion, Sugarpill Acidberry (all over lid), Buttercupcake (inner lid and blended above crease) from the Sugarpill Burning Heart Palette, Midori (outer lid) and Tako (inner eye) from the Sugarpill Sweetheart Palette, Sugarpill Saint false lashes, SensatioNail gel in Kitten Heel, Kiss Nail Dress in Eyelet, MAC Candy Yum-Yum (with Tako dusted and blotted on the inside of my lips for dimension). Nanette Lepore Flaming Love top.

I've been meaning to try Sugarpill cosmetics forever, but it seems like every time I would remember to check out the site (which, given my forgetful nature, was admittedly not that often), the products I wanted to try were sold out. That's usually a pretty good sign, so it made me want to buy them even more. I followed Shrinkle on LiveJournal years and years ago; we were both members of many of the same DIY sales communities, and I always admired her sewing and makeup skills. When she came out with her own makeup line, I had a feeling it would be amazing. And guess what? It is. I'm extremely late to the game, I know! I ordered a couple of palettes, some lashes, and several loose shadows. I haven't used the loose ones yet (I did swatch them and they're beautiful) but I wanted to play around with some of the colors for a fun, colorful look. I did something to match my nails, which are still going strong after two weeks - thanks, Amanda! They're growing out but the polish is still intact, which is pretty impressive since I'm extremely hard on my nails. I had my sister keep my ring finger blank so I could switch it up with stickers. I get bored easily, so it was a good way to keep things fresh. I've already gone through three different designs, but this one reminds me of my 80s childhood dreams, so it's my favorite. Clearly, I wasn't going for subtlety.

Weather Wrecker

Outfit Details:
Nia jacket - c/o Shoshanna
shirt - Madewell
shorts - Free People
jewelry c/o Sorrelli
Elizabeth and James Lafayette sunglasses - Shopbop

Dear Florida,
I'm sorry that I brought such chilly, windy, sometimes rainy weather to you. I seem to always bring it with me. Maybe we should think about changing the name from The Sunshine State to The Sunshine State Unless Keiko Is In Town, Because She's The Worst. I think that might be appropriate, because something about my presence makes Florida want to cry from the skies.
Despite the initial days of chills and showers, I was able to enjoy some time at the beach with my sister and the kids (adorable photos of my ham of a nephew to come soon), while in Miami for Cotton's 24 Hour Runway Show. Even Florida's "cold" weather is much warmer than what we're experiencing up North, so the most I needed was this cropped little jacket from Shoshanna, one of the many brands featured in the show. I'm still waiting to see the photos of the looks I styled, but I should have them for you by next week. They do have 1,440 looks to go through, so I can only imagine it might take them a little while to get them sorted out!

p.s. Special thanks to my tiny photographer, my niece Roxy Mae. Love love love.

Keep it bright

Outfit Details:
Elizabeth and James Lafayette sunglasses
vintage coat, bought at Manhattan Vintage
Nanette Lepore boots c/o Cole Haan
Cole Haan Anne Street Satchel - c/o Cole Haan
MAC Candy Yum Yum lipstick (it looks a little darker due to the lipliner)

Seems as though it's all about the brights, this week. I actually was wearing an all black outfit underneath the coat, which is very strange for me, despite the fact that I live in New York City. With three cats and a fluffy white dog, black fabric is both a magnet and a magnifying glass for stray hairs. Luckily, I love just about every other color - and I always carry a lint roller. But even on that rare occasion that I went for head to toe black, I ended up pairing it with a super bright coat, lipstick, and bag. What can I say? I like to keep it bright.
