Apologies for the wrinkles and the somewhat grainy photographs; these were taken when the sun was almost down and my outfit was already in use for a full day. This is the outfit I wore to host the Piperlime and InStyle event, and I decided to go with one of their featured trends: black and white. With the pretty lace details, statement heels (which Tai and I also styled here), and bright pink lipstick (with a hint of the same color on my lower lashline), it was anything but boring - at least, I hope so! I've always said that makeup is the best accessory, so I kept it pretty simple everywhere else. That being said - did anyone get the MAC Archie's Girls lipsticks before they sold out? I guess I'll have to wait until they launch in store, but I'm wondering if the ones that are still in stock online are worth purchasing - particularly Boyfriend Stealer. Thoughts?
Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of cohosting an InStyle and Piperlime event with Tai Beauchamp. The first forty guests to arrive received $25 gift cards to shop with (and shop, they did!), and all of the attendees were treated to delicious food, cocktails, and styling sessions. Tai and I also styled our own mannequins based around four different pieces, to give different ideas on how to style the same item. I had such a blast hosting with the InStyle and Piperlime teams, and couldn't be happier to have shared the honor with such a stunning and talented cohost. Thank you to everyone who attended! I'll be sharing more about my outfit in the following post (later today).
p.s. If you have any questions about Tai's looks, ask her on twitter. She's very kind and extremely helpful!
With Cotton's Road to the Runway getting closer and closer to finding our regional winners, this new Florida "home." tee couldn't have come at a better time. In just one month, we'll be bringing one winner from each region to South Beach for Cotton's 24 Hour Runway Show. Though I'm representing the Northeast region, I will always identify as a Floridian. I was born and raised there, and my family still lives there...and if winter has taught me anything, it's that my Florida blood was never meant to withstand it. Plus, whenever you meet anyone in NYC, the first thing most people ask is, "Where are you from?" Most of us are transplants, who sought out this city for all of its wonder. Save for my friend Helena of Brooklyn Blonde (born and bred in NYC), most of my New York friends are from anywhere but here. They say you can't call yourself a New Yorker until you've been here for ten years; I've been here for six, so I'm still a Floridian. Ask me again in four more years.
It's no secret how much I love Seychelles shoes, along with all of the people behind the company. So, when my friends at Seychelles asked me to participate in a little Valentine's Day Q+A, I hopped to it and grabbed Bobby and Miku for a few snaps to go along. I know how much they love Miku (she impressed them with her breakdancing skills back in the day) and they know how much she loves shoes, so clearly she became the star of the show. The pup just can't get enough of the spotlight. We don't mind.
Click through to Seychelles to read more about how Bobby and I first met, what Valentine's Day means to us, and view some of Miku's and my favorite new shoes!
First, since I happen to be wearing a new cotton lace blouse and a cotton belt, I figured this would be a good opportunity to remind you to keep voting in Cotton's Road to the Runway. We're down from 48 to 24 finalists, and the remaining contestants need your help in deciding who will be accompanying us to South Beach for Cotton's 24 Hour Runway Show. Secondly, I finally got a haircut! So friends and family who have been listening to me threaten to shave my head on a daily basis, fret not. That urge has been suppressed.
I often get comments about how I should wear my hair down more often. You're not the only ones who think that; my friends and family are always on my case about it, too. I have this weird thing about wearing my hair down - I don't like the feeling of hair on my neck, so I end up putting it in an updo halfway through the day or sooner. I'm a little strange, what can I say? But since I just got my hair cut and colored (by Tim and Flores at Arrojo), I've decided to wear it down a little more often. It feels a lot lighter without all the extra length, and the shorter layers up top make it so that I can roll out of bed and it will still look cool. Hooray for haircuts!
On Saturday, I had the pleasure of hosting a Dr. Jart+ event at Sephora in Times Square, along with Alexis of The Beauty Bean. I'm already a regular consumer of their V7 line (their Vitalaser 2.1 is my winter skin necessity) and the premium beauty balm, so I was really excited to get the chance to experiment with all of their other products. We were giving out samples and free makeup demonstrations of the Black Label Detox Beauty Balm and Water Fuse Smart Gel BB. By the end of the day, my hand was looking fabulous with all of the samples I was trying on it. I'm still a big fan of the original (premium), but considering the detoxing benefit of the black label cream - which, as a girl who lives in the harsh climate of NYC knows, is a big plus - I decided to bring home a few samples to see which I like the most.
I'm actually thinking about purchasing the whole sampler set to try them all out. If you have a favorite, I'd love to hear your preference (and why).
I'll be doing a full post with some of my favorite products and a makeup look to go with it, next week - I still want to test out some of my new goodies before I give a full report. But in the meantime, hop on over to Dr. Jart+ US to see some more snaps from the event. Thank you to everyone who came out to see us!
I'm super excited about the Piperlime and InStyle event I'm co-hosting with Tai Beauchamp, next Wednesday, January 23rd. I've been a longtime shopper of the Piperlime website, but yesterday was my first time in their new store (proof that I should get out more). Tai and I each styled four mannequins for the event, with each of our looks sharing one of the same pieces: a pastel patterned blouse, statement shoes, coated jeans, a little white dress. It will give you an idea of different ways to style the same item, and we'll happily demonstrate even more ways to get more wear out of each piece.
But here's the best part: the first 40 guests to arrive will receive a $25 gift card. So while you're enjoying refreshments and discussing the latest trends with Tai and me, you can pick up something to bring home, on the house! Space is limited, so make sure to RSVP to
InStyle_Piperlime@timeinc.com by January 21, and don't forget to come early. Can't wait to see you there!
