When I was in high school, I went through a phase where all I wanted to wear was my “pimp coat” – a large, furry monster of a jacket that could have doubled as some sort of faux taxidermy. I was smitten with one I saw at the mall, and even though it was at the opposite end of Auntie Anne’s – where I made pretzels to make that money – I would often find myself wandering by the store to see if the price dropped. It never did, and my $5.15 an hour meant endless four hour shifts in order to save for that coat. Eventually, my grandma got it for me as a Christmas gift and procured her title of winningest grandma. She still likes to occasionally reminisce about the time she got me a “pimp coat,” and it is with her in mind that I wear this updated, feminine version of the original. It’s not as large, not as heavy, and it doesn’t smell of cinnamon sugar pretzels. But it will do. Oh, it will do.
