By now, these pictures feel pretty old, but they are the perfect fit for our current weather. On this particular day, the sky turned black almost instantly and we were completely drenched within minutes. One epic argument with a very mean taxi driver later (long story), a sopping wet version of myself found another, kinder cab driver who took pity on me and drove me over the bridge and back home. He got a really big tip, and I immediately took a hot shower and went to bed. And now, with this mean old hurricane approaching (thanks, Sandy), I think I'll do exactly the same thing. Minus the fighting with a cab driver thing. I'm trying to keep that to a minimum.

I grew up in the sunshine state of endless summers (not complaining), so seasonal changes still make me excited. I fully embrace Fall and its rich color palette, crisp air, and fallen leaves. Bring on the boots and sweaters. I'm ready to layer.

Growing up, I was always that weird girl in the horse shirt (you know that girl), so it only makes sense that I am still that girl. If it has a horse or a panda on it, I have to have it.

After being in Florida for a week and sick with a stomach bug for another, I took my first [fully] well day to spend some time outside in the beautiful Autumn weather with Bobby and Samara. Fresh air works wonders. Autumn, I do love you so.

Ever since I was a little girl, horses have been a huge part of my life. We got our first horse, Spanky - a mischievous Anglo Arab who was smart as a whip, when I was just four years old. My beloved Morgan-Welsh pony Shawn, my absolute heart, was a Christmas surprise at five. Rowdy (whose registered name was "Let's Get Rowdy" - hence the belt) came shortly after: a massive Appendix with the most gentle disposition, you might mistake him for a teddy bear.
Our original three have since passed on, and I'm not sure I'll ever love another horse as much as I loved them. I now have Romeo, and my family has Diablo and Coco. Though I love them all fiercely, there is a special bond that develops between a horse and their little girl - something that has a lot to do with growing up beside one another - that solid adulthood can't replicate. There's a sign at the ranch where I board Romeo; it sums it up perfectly:
"All horses deserve, at least once in their lives, to be loved by a little girl."
But they were never our horses. We were their girls.

shirt dress - Anthropologie
Ampersand heels - c/o Seychelles
Legacy color block carryall - c/o Coach
It's my last day in Florida, and despite coming down with a stomach virus at the tail end of my trip, I had such a wonderful time with my family and friends. Leaving is always a little tough, but I'm so grateful that I'm able to visit as much as I do. I'll be back soon!
p.s. This "dress" is actually a sleep shirt, but I bought it with every intention of wearing it outside. Let's be honest, my pajamas are not this cute.

I love crafting, so when Michaels asked me to create a special DIY project for Jewelry Month, I jumped at the opportunity. Armed with chains and spikes and strips of leather, I sat down and created the necklace you see above. It's super easy to do! To see the full project and step by step instructions, click here - and don't forget to check out all of the other projects!
My outfit details: leather pants, jacket, and snake print blouse, all by Jones New York. Shoes by Seychelles.
