Products used (on all three of us!) from left to right: Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Liner in Perversion (I'm actually wearing Sabbath, which is navy blue), Diorshow Mascara, Too Faced Full Bloom Blush in Sweet Pink, Estee Lauder Fuchsia Velvet Lipstick (I think this was limited edition, but try MAC Girl About Town or Make Up For Ever #36)
I recently took Kim and Kyla over to Bird to try on Warby Parker frames, and Kim was overwhelmed by the idea of picking out glasses. Ever the contacts enthusiast, Kim has had some eye problems in the past and her doctor implored her to wear glasses more often. Since she hasn't upgraded from her childhood glasses - no, really, they're actual child's wire rimmed frames - we decided it was time for her to pick a pair of grown up specs. The only problem? Kim hates glasses. I can't relate, since I was oddly excited the day I was told I needed them, but the two of us have very different styles. However, I had a feeling that Kim just needed to adjust her outlook with a makeup shake up. We left with a pair of glasses in mind (she favored the Sinclairs), and went home to try on my own glasses and give her a little makeover.
Since she wears intense, bold looks and has a mantra of "more is more is more," glasses tend to take it too far over the top - even for her. We dialed back the glitter and shimmer and put the focus on opening up her eyes with a thick, bold line along the lash line and bare lower lash line. With bright, flushed cheeks and a bold lip, the look was decidedly very me (we even did the messy bun to drive the point home), but still resonated with Kim's aesthetic. It's still more, just dispersed in a different way. The concentrated colors are monochromatic and kept on the cheeks and lips, making it less overwhelming when paired with a thick set of frames, and the thick liner and coats of mascara keep her eyes from disappearing behind the lenses. Proof that this look can be great on many different faces? We also replicated it on her sister, Kyla!
Want to know how to get the classic winged liner? Check out my photo tutorial or head to Look TV for my video tutorial. You can also see my blush tutorial, here. One of my red lip tutorials (here and here) would work for the bright lips - just swap the red for fuchsia or any bold color of your choice!

Do you wear glasses? Would you try this look?

I do sometimes... thanks for the post!

I had trouble finding the perfect makeup look for wearing glasses and this is perfect! I love sticking to the simple cat liner, bold lips and rosy cheek look c:

Cute! I would totally wear this :)
ReplyDeleteI adore glasses! you look lovely in them!
ReplyDeleteI occasionally wear glasses and I would try this look!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to! I wear glasses, too (similar to the ones on your pictures). But I wish I could use Eyeliner as good as you ;D
ReplyDeleteI wear my glasses everyday, definitely trying this out!
ReplyDeleteI do wear glasses, but most of the time I skip eye makeup when I wear them, and just wear blush and lip gloss. I don't like wearing mascara with glasses, because my lashes end up touching the glasses. :P
ReplyDeleteI do wear my glasses sometimes (mostly at night or when it's overcast because I don't have a pair of prescription sunglasses) and I am known for rocking the keiko bun and eyeliner :) Thanks again for all the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI do wear glasses from time to time and I do line my upper lids very similarly to yours! I think since glasses can mask so much sometimes, it can almost be overkill with more eye make up. Love the pink lipstick!!

What a fresh, pretty makeup look! Looks beautiful on all three of you, with our without glasses! I'm not a glasses wearer, but this is actually similar to my every day look- winged liner and vibrant blush and lips. Well done! :)

Thank you for breathing life back into glasses! Due to my annoyingly dry eyes and overly dry work environment I am forced to wear my glasses most days...which can get very frustrating. It is refreshing to see a bold look that is accented by glasses, not hidden by them!
ReplyDeletebrenna
i LOVe the winston frames!!! that would be my second pair if i got one...i have the crosbys(love). anyways, love the makeup look....i def find i need a bolder look when i wear my specs. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat timing—I just received my SInclairs in Burgundy Fade this morning! Still need to get them adjusted, but I immediately went to put on some liner so I see how they "really" look. :] You ladies look great~
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this post! I wear glasses and I don't plan on stopping ( I like the way I look in glasses compared to not wearing them) anytime soon, so this makeup tip is a big help!

I've worn glasses since 8th grade, and I love them! Over the last year or so I started wearing bright pink lipsticks and I've never wanted to stop. It really does balance out the thicker frames.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest issue is that now I feel like I have tiny eyes without my specs.
I do indeed wear glasses - thick frames too, and I LOVE to rock them with this look!!

I wear glasses almost everyday (I work with computers, so too long with contacts makes for a miserable day) and I always struggle with make-up. So yeah, definitely trying this look!
ReplyDeleteI love these lip colours :)

I do wear makeup and sometimes it's hard to do the right eye makeup. Will have to try this style out.
ReplyDeleteLove this, Keiko!
ReplyDeleteI'd totally try this, I'm just soo, so bad at the winged eyeliner, and liner in general. =[
I don't wear glasses, but this post makes me want to! How stinkin adorable!! Love the bright and bold look, perfect for the summer.
ReplyDeleteI have those Ray Bans! You are such a babe!
ReplyDeletecome check out my blog :)
The Warby Parkers look so great! I never wear my glasses because I can't quite find a glasses makeup look that I love, but will definitely try this!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful makeup!!!!

I'm obsessed with glasses - so I totally relate to you, who was excited to get them.
ReplyDeleteI do love the style of makeup here, because, you're right, glasses pose the risk of taking your look over the top if you overdo it on the rouge, etc.
The makeup here has a totally 50's vibe - and I really love these photos. You're SO right about opening up the eyes with liner, because glasses sort of minimize eye size - so anything to blow them up is helpful.
From one glasses nerd to another - hanks so much for the tip!

I wear glasses and to be honest, I never really thought about changing my look to fit my glasses. I just wear what looks good to me! I've been wearing more eyeliner though to make my eyes stand out more.
ReplyDeleteI mostly wear contacts (my eyesight is too poor to be completely corrected by glasses), but when I do bust out the glasses I'll keep this in mind! I usually do go easy on the eye makeup with them though - you can barely see it through my think lenses!
ReplyDeleteThese pink colour is gorgeous :)

Lovely looks and glasses1 I just bought cat eye glasses so I will ty this look!
ReplyDeleteI do wear glasses, but I've never felt too comfortable in them. I think they suit my face when I have makeup on, and it does make me feel confident. I will be giving this a try!
ReplyDeleteI wear glasses since I was 13 years old... And your post is really helpful! Thanks!

Great idea! I have been wearing glasses all my life, and since I started experimenting with make-up, I wear a lot of bold bright make-up. :)

Ever since I started wearing glasses full time, I've struggled with the makeup issue. I finally settled on something close to what you have done here, but my liner is less dramatic. I can't seem to pull off liquid liner! I might try again though, with your inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI wear my glasses every day and am actually looking to get a new pair --so thanks for the suggestions in the next post!
ReplyDeleteBut I always do the bright cheeks/stronger liner and mascara. I sometimes use some highlight/shimmer on my eyelids. I forego the lipstick, but the dark liner is a great way to still look put together and have glasses on!
I might try your look--lipstick and all--for a wedding look. We'll see :)
I wear the Robinson frames from Bonlook so the frames are thick. So I definitely wear thick eyeliner, blush and sometimes pink lip stain. I should try winged eyeliner!

Took the words right out of my mouth. I always line my top lid and leave the bottom bare when I wear my specs..the bold lip creates a sexy librarian look that I love. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips - I wear glasses a lot and sometimes struggle with how to do my makeup with them! I do it in a similar way already so now I know I am on the right track x
ReplyDeleteThe glasses are hot. thanks for tips. I wear glasses sometime its so hard to put on make up
ReplyDeleteI just ordered this lip color and 'Snob' from the Nordstrom website. Hope it looks as cute on me as it does on you!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the market for some new spec's and these seem very reasonable. I also have been putting off getting new frames because it is a big decision. I'm sure once I get a new pair, I will buy more. Thanks for the tips.

I am wearing glasses and have recently tried a similar look - with winged liner and red glasses.
ReplyDeletehttp://aheartandsoulstory.blogspot.de/2012/05/tattoo-convention-2012.html
It looks similrar, but I guess red lips would really make a difference!! Probably will try it with pink next time. Thx for sharing your tips!

Great job! Love the male ups and the pics!

I wear glasses and I don't put make up on my eyes for my every day look, but black eye-liner is my go to look for evening. I also recently acquired MAC's Impassioned lipstick, which is a pink hue similar to this one...So I guess I have been pretty spot on :) Thanks for sharing ! I'd love to see more eye make-up for gals with glasses!
