Someone recently asked me what clothing I feel most comfortable in, and I responded that I'm happiest in somewhat shapeless, loose dresses. I realized later that it might come across as having a lack of confidence in my body, but it really isn't that. I look good in a wiggle dress, my friends. They were made for girls with some curves.
Sure, I would rather take an ice cold shower than go try on bathing suits, and I stress about my weight now and then like anyone else, but I think that's just part of being human. Even at my very skinniest, I felt most like myself in those same dresses I mentioned. They're not flattering in the conventional sense of the term, but those are silly boundaries and I'm clearly very rebellious (I'm not).
Wear whatever makes you feel good, whether it's a bikini or a shirt with kitties all over it. I feel like I'm always saying this hackneyed expression - about wearing what makes you feel good, not the kitty shirt part - but it's just like my defense of chronic b****face. I have to explain the situation now and again, so well-meaning strangers don't worry about the state of my mental health. And p.s., I have a magical dog named Miku, so I'm pretty much happy all the time:)
What outfit makes you feel like you? I'm curious!

Your look stunning in these shots! Love the outfit!

Thought I'd drop by to say hello!
ReplyDeleteDon't really come on the blog often (no time!) but I'm always stalking your Instagram.. haha :p

I also gravitate towards loose fitting tops and dresses! I love how comfy they are and how they let you prance around without a care...and not to mention that I actually think its a cute shape! Love the glasses in this post, too!! I'm a sucker for a good pair of specs!

Definitely super feminine dresses with nipped in waists and full mini skirts that hit about mid-way on the thigh (my "money spot"!) - the more cupcake-y the dress the more "me" I feel! When I want to feel sexy, it's my back that I show off. People make comments some times about how I'm clearly drawn to a particular shape and I almost always wear a particular kind of dress, but I know what makes me feel most comfortable and what works best, not just in terms of being "flattering" to my body shape, but also to my personality - life just seems so much happier and more fun with a full skirt and lots of ruffles!
ReplyDeleteI don't know...I think I'm still trying to narrow down what is me! haha I know what I'm not comfortable in for sure. As far as things I like to wear they have few connecting threads: vintage and feminine. I think it's going to be a lifelong process I'm afraid, changing as I do.
ReplyDeleteYou always look so fabulous :)

I love the print on that dress! And I agree about loose-fitting clothing; it's just more comfortable for me! :)

I love your glasses and this dress! You're right, these kind of dresses fit to both, girls with curves and the skinnier ones like myself.

I love your dress and those glasses are pretty awesome. I love wearing dresses because I feel fun and flirty but nothing beats a great pair of jeans. They can be paired with almost anything!

Gosh, I love all of these posts. Such an inspiration for me to mix up my wardrobe and be more creative with putting things together.
ReplyDeleteMy go-tos for this past chilly season have been a simple dress (usually with some semblance of an empire waist), a scarf, cardigan, colorful tights, and a pair of oxfords. I foresee myself living in shorts and flowing shirts and tanks for the summer - bring on the warm weather!
those glasses rock! i love shapeless dresses too, even though i know they're not the *most* flattering. i think the one you've got on looks pretty nice on you :)
ReplyDeletex
I agree. It's all about what makes you feel good. I'm most comfortable in a pair of leggings and a baggy tshirt. Simple and can be dressed down with my converse or dressed up with heels.

I totally agree with you. This is why I love style blogs--so many women of different shapes, heights, color, cultures and from all areas of the world--and everyone is so different! It is amazing. That is why I also love STYLE. Everyone has their own style and I think that if you feel good, you should own it, no matter what nay-sayers may have to squawk about. I personally read your blog everyday and even emailed you a while back about how much I love your style and admire your ability to design such beautiful clothes. I totally mean it.
ReplyDeleteI always feel best in a flowy skirt personally. I love to twirl in them and they feel great and so ladylike.
Love this Keiko and for the record, though I've said it before when you mention your weight, you always look fantastic. And so does your puppy. ;-)
Lovely outfit!

The clothes that I feel most comfortable in are high-waisted jeans and a perfectly cut tee (prob. american apparel unisex tees, I have them in almost every colour). it's like my daily uniform. It what I feel like 'me' in. I like to be comfortable AND look good.
ReplyDeletelove your outfit! and your wiggle dresses, you pull them off with flare.
Those glasses are the prettiest things! I would probably say very similar to what you mentioned, I like oversized tops (they're so versatile) and with a good pair of skinnies you can never go wrong. Heels also make me feel pretty fabulous!

I'm always so surprised when I read your posts where you express some sort of self consciousness about your body. From this vantage, you're absolutely beautiful, the kind of girl that other girls would LOVE to look like! I think you look great in everything you wear - because YOU make the outfits!

Heavenly glasses :)

I thought a wiggle dress had a smaller hemline circumference than the hips -- making you "wiggle" when you walk because youre thighs have less room, like Mariyln Monroe?

I prefer dresses that flatter my body shape, but if I'm going for more of a casual look, I LOVE baggy shirts and sweaters!
ReplyDeletewww.clochedeletoile.blogspot.com
While I tend to favor fuller skirts and cinched waists (something those around me laugh-- doll-like dresses if you will), I know that I look good in those wiggle dresses as well. It's all about what makes you feel most like yourself. :) Great post.
ReplyDeletelove your glasses!!

I love the print on this dress! Ironically enough, I feel most myself when I'm wearing something a bit tomboyish like a long button-up shirt with skinny jeans and oxfords, or a casual cotton dress in a fun print. I have tried wearing heels more, but I always end up in flats. Comfort all the way! :)

Loved this post. You really are gorgeous, and I think it's true, we all have body issues but we also all feel fabulous in something. For me, it's a flowy, patterned blouse. I love them, and I have too many to count in my wardrobe, but I always justify them because I always feel great!

You really DO rock the socks and sandals combo so well!
ReplyDeletemagruderjc: Yes! I'm not talking about the dress I'm wearing here. When I say wiggle dress, I'm talking super fitted, Joan Holloway style dress. I meant that I'm not afraid of wearing something form fitting; I just prefer loose and comfy:)
ReplyDeleteIt's such a gorgeous dress!Love the over knee socks,I kind of forgot about mine, gotta wear them tomorrow!;)

ReplyDeleteI totally agree! There is something about loose, flowy dresses. You can sit cross legged on the floor, go for a dance, or go for a run if you feel so inspired. I've had people say weird things to me before like "I didn't think you'd have that kind of a body based on how you dress." Those sorts of back handed haters will aways be judging but like some guy, that I can't remember now, said "In order to hold a man down, you have to stay down there with them". Hope you enjoyed your flowy dress day!
ReplyDeleteIm inlove with this outfit! You look beautiful and amazing, just perfect! The sandals with socks awesome!

You are absolutely positively BEAUTIFUL. And I would never look at you and guess you were a girl with curves, but I love that you are. I definitely have a (really short) woman's body, and feel comfortable in similar styles. You're rocking it.
