Holy guacamole!! She can do pointe dancing? So jealous. When I was little, I quit ballet because they wouldn't let me wear my pointy shoes before I was 18. I always have mad respect for ANYONE who sticks it out long enough to earn their pointy shoes.
Junaluska: I don't know anything about dance, but those are elastic at the front. She hasn't even started pointe yet, she was just having fun and trying out her shoes for me.
The shoes should come with separate elastic bands in addition to the ribbons. Anyways, I tied my first pair completely wrong and accidentally lost the drawstrings. Pointe is confusing in the beginning, and it takes time to figure out how you like your shoes.
By the way, Tessa has great feet. Once she breaks in the shoes a bit more, her arch will look amazing. Also, congratulations to her! Beginning pointe is an exciting milestone. I was beyond ecstatic when I got my first pair. They're actually still hanging on my wall.
Junaluska: How long have you been dancing? I've always envied my sisters because they are all great dancers - and I have zero of that talent (I have no dancing skills whatsoever).
Tessa is the only one who took up ballet, but she quit years ago when her instructor struggled with cancer (and unfortunately passed away). It took years before she decided to go back, so she has worked extra hard to make up for lost time. She only started back up this past year and I know she'll catch up in no time!
Sorry for the novel. Do you have recs of what she needs or where to buy from? I'm always looking for something to get for her because I can't EVER get this girl to tell me what she wants for her birthday.
I started dancing when I was 3, but I wasn't very serious about it at all until high school. I'm a senior now, and I dance about 20 hours a week. Outside of ballet, however, I can't dance too well haha!
I'm so sorry to hear about her dance teacher. I quit for about a year and started again at a new studio, so it was really hard to catch up. It's totally worth the effort though. I didn't get en pointe until I was 15, so Tessa still has tons of time to become amazing at pointe.
As for dancewear, www.discountdance.com is always great. They have some gorgeous leotards, and warmups [especially legwarmers and knit shorts] are always fun.
There's also a store called Yumiko, which sells modern-looking leotards. It's sort of expensive, but the leotards are so soft and last forever. There's a store in New York, and you can choose from a bunch of bright color combinations. I own the "Charlotte" style.
Of course, if she likes to watch ballet [or any kind of dance], there are plenty of opportunities to take her to a performance when she visits. Two companies based in New York are American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet, and a lot of companies will travel through as well.
ahhmazing photos.

ReplyDeleteHow pretty
ReplyDeleteWhere are her elastics? I don't want her to hurt herself, especially when her ribbons are tied incorrectly. Ankles need all the support they can get!
ReplyDeleteOhh I wish I knew ballet!
