makeup monday: la vie en rose

I like being pale but when Winter hits, it's a whole new level of pasty and dull. Gone is that porcelain skin (okay, "porcelain" might be a stretch), making way for its washed out alternate. The combination of cold weather and dry indoor heat is an unpleasant combination, drying out skin and giving it that ghastly appearance. It's important to exfoliate and moisturize to keep your skin hydrated and blotchiness at bay, but to give yourself a little extra glow and restore color to your cheeks via that magic little thing called makeup, read on.

As always, if you need product recommendations or have any questions, ask me on twitter or facebook. You can also ask in the comments, of course, but I can answer you directly on twitter and facebook!

Here's what I used:

Smashbox Photo Finish, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain, Make Up For Ever Uplight in 22, Estee Lauder blush in Wild Sunset (I can't find it online - it might not be out yet), Urban Decay Good Karma Blush Brush, Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Lovechild. (Note: Estee Lauder Blush, Urban Decay brush and pencil are provided by the companies)

Urban Decay Primer Potion, Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in Bourbon, Urban Decay Good Karma Smudger Brush, Urban Decay Lush Lash Mascara. Not pictured: Urban Decay Lashes in Instaflare. (Primer and brush provided by Urban Decay)

For step by step instructions on how to get your glow back, keep reading after the jump.

(This will make you look like you're glowing from within. Be careful not to add too much highlighter or you will just look sweaty.)
It's important to do this before putting on powder blush.

or maybe that's just me.

Now, the eyes:

  39. I hear you on paleness turning to palid in the winter. I've stopped with major lip color for the most part and have let my hair return to it's natural dark strawberry blond-ish color instead of dying it a more dramatic red.

    You still look lovely though!

  61. Yes you are pail....and I think that is part of what makes you so strikingly beautiful. You kinda dont have the same colouring as everybody else.

My husbands sister is like you, in that if she goes out without mascara people as her if she wants to sit down (they assume she is about to faint). That plus she is topped with naturally ice-blond hair (Denmark).

But my god, the minute she puts just a little bit of colour on her lips ...people walk into walls staring at her.

  63. I haven`t thought of adding highlighter to my foundation...hmmm...
Keiko have you tried B.B cream yet? I moved over to Japan and people here and Korea are nutty for it. It`s kind of like a tinted moisturizer, but I swear it`s helping the quality of my skin.It really gives it a nice dewy finish especially if I finish it off with powder.
