fair isle

Outfit Details:
Juicy Couture Bright Fair Isle Sweater (currently 40% off!) - c/o Juicy Couture
pleated skirt - thrifted
vintage Coach purse - gift from my mom
tights - HUE
"Theory" boots - c/o Seychelles
ring - Artists and Fleas vendors
vintage rhinestone bracelets - gifts from my mom
lipstick - Urban Decay Super High Saturated Lip Color in Crush

Meet my new favorite sweater! I love a little bit of color in the colder months; I fell in love as soon as I tried it on. I know a lot of people reserve brighter tones for warmer climate, but there's nothing like a splash of color to brighten up a bleak day. Even though it's quite a statement, I've already worn this sweater two different ways within the first week and plan on wearing it a lot more. I'm one of those girls who plays her favorite songs on repeat.

Please check out my guest couturist feature on Juicy Couture's tumblr and make sure to keep checking back for other guest couturists and their holiday musings.

Makeup Monday: Neon Deluxe

I never sleep in my makeup, except last night. I fell asleep shortly after completing these pictures (at a horrible hour of almost 5 AM) and woke up this morning, with my eye makeup completely intact. The rest of me was a hot mess, but my eyes looked great.

While I don't recommend sleeping in your makeup (I'm looking at you, Kim), I do think this proved how long Urban Decay's makeup lasts - plus, the quality is great. The primer potion keeps shadows from creasing, their shadows are buttery smooth and vibrant, and the liners stay put.

Since these colors are practically neon, I decided to keep them close to the lid (stopping at the crease) and paired them with a muted gloss. Want to know how to recreate this look? Keep reading after the jump for step by step instructions and a full product list.

The Show Must Go On

Outfit Details:
blazer - thrifted
shirt - thrifted
shorts - Queen's Wardrobe
tights - HUE
vintage Coach purse - gift from my mom
Dejavu heels - c/o Steve Madden
lipstick: MAC Dubonnet

The second outfit I chose for the Steve Brings It Holiday Campaign was inspired by Harold Zidler, the owner of Moulin Rouge (you can see my first outfit here). When they asked me to create a party playlist for this theme, I thought of the overall message of the movie:

"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return."

I didn't want to make it a literal Moulin Rouge soundtrack playlist, so I only sneaked in the original of Roxanne. The rest are fun love songs and a couple with a little bit of mild heartache. You know, the kind of heartache you can still dance and sing to. My Pandora station (inspired by my original playlist) can be found here.

"Just Like Heaven" - The Cure
"This Charming Man" - The Smiths
"My Love" - The Bird and the Bee
"Song Beneath The Song" - Maria Taylor
"Young Turks" - by Rod Stewart
"You and Me Song" - by The Wannadies
"Don't You Want Me" - by Human League
"PYT" - Michael Jackson
"Nothing Better" - The Postal Service
"Roxanne" - The Police

Tie: Uniqlo
Pants and vest: c/o Chaps
Shoes: Aldo

Outfit #2:
Shirt and pants: H+M
Tie: Express
Tie bar, sweater, shoes, belt: c/o Chaps

I promised to share the outfits Bobby put together for the Chaps styling event we took part in, and now that I'm back in New York, I finally have them for you. Chaps sent him an assortment of clothing and accessories - it was like an early Christmas! He put together a couple of outfits based around his favorite pieces, as demonstrated above (and on his blog, so I apologize if you've already seen these). I love that they are very different looks, but still very much Bobby's style. Which one is your favorite, outfit #1 or #2? I'm partial to the first one.

But enough about Bobby; let's talk about how beautiful my little Miku is. She's such a princess.

just like thinking of your childhood home

Outfit Details:
polka dot top - c/o ModCloth
sequin top - H+M
Levis jeans - TJ Maxx
Romance boots - c/o Seychelles (30% off on their site until Monday, with code BLACK FRIDAY)
vintage purse - Old Made Good

After our little Nashville trip, I headed down to Florida to surprise my little sister, Tessa, on her sixteenth birthday. Since it was so close to Thanksgiving and my older sister Nicole's thirtieth birthday, I decided to stay through the week. I can't picture myself living in Florida anymore, but I visit as often as I can. I'm very close to my family and I'm lucky that even though I live far away, I get to spend a lot of time with them. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Gift Guide: Rebecca Minkoff Black Friday Sale!

I think it's pretty obvious that I'm a huge fan of Rebecca Minkoff, so when I saw this sale, I knew I had to share it with you! From now until Monday at 11:59 pm, they are having a HUGE sale on handbags, shoes, and apparel - there are even some bags for the boys. They will be adding new styles hourly, and they go quickly!

When I'm not in New York, I make it my duty to seek out as many vintage and thrift stores as possible. We have them, as well, but they're often either overpriced or heavily picked through. We shopped at several stores, but I decided to limit my purchases, since my suitcase was already pretty full. I ended up picking up more than I intended: a couple of vintage bags, a dress, a sweater, the Simple Twist ring (handmade by my cousin's friend) I'm wearing in these photographs, and a necklace for my sister Amanda. Good thing Bobby bought me a luggage scale - I was able to tell how much I could pack without going overweight. I'm not a light packer.

My favorite find while in Nashville was undoubtedly this purse with the golden horse. I think of my little Shawny every time I wear it. Anything that reminds me of him is automatically a favorite.

Chictopia Week of Giving

Have you entered Chictopia's Week of Giving, yet? Chictopia is donating one dollar for every entry they receive, to the winner's charity of choice. The runners up will have $100 donated to their respective charities. Just by entering, you're supporting a cause!

HOW TO ENTER:
-Upload an outfit photo to Chictopia for the Chictopia's Week of Giving contest
-Title your post with the name of your charity.
-Write about what your charity means to you and why you think it deserves a donation.
-Encourage people to FAVORITE your entry - winners will be based on MOST FAVORITES.

My charity of choice is Women In Need, an organization that is very dear to my heart. In fact, I'm currently helping to plan a holiday fundraiser for them - so keep your eyes out for more on that, when I get back to New York!

What I love about Women In Need is that they go the extra distance to actually help women and children in need - because food and shelter are not enough. They provide counseling, domestic violence services, childcare, job training, housing, and substance abuse treatment to help women become self-reliant.

The contest ends tomorrow at midnight, so please enter now and don't forget to vote for your favorite! Remember, the entry with the most votes will get a substantial donation for their charity.

Hutton Hotel

When I asked for hotel recommendations in Nashville, the response was overwhelmingly in favor of Hutton Hotel. Needless to say, you guys were spot on! We had such a fantastic stay there - the staff was beyond helpful and friendly, and I loved that the hotel is eco friendly and pet friendly (maybe next time I'll bring little Miku along). Plus, the showers are super fancy, and if you ask where the sleeper sofa is from, an employee will literally lift it up to find the tag (it was underneath, not under the cushions) and then research the company and get the number for you (true story).

I'll be making a list of all of the places we went - let's be honest, it's mostly food and shops -  but I figured the best place to start was with the hotel. If you're ever in Nashville, I highly recommend it!

I planned on having Makeup Monday ready for today, but with the traveling, my little sister's 16th birthday, and an unexpected trip to the vet with Little Little (my sister's kitty), I haven't had a chance to get it done! I will have to put it up later this week. I'm currently in Florida; I came straight from Nashville to surprise Tessa for her birthday. I still have a ton of photos from Nashville, however, so I'll be updating with those before I get to the Florida photographs.

My cousin Claudia is a little camera shy, but I managed to sneak a couple of pictures of her. Isn't she the cutest? Claudia and her husband Mark were excellent tour guides, and also our hosts for our first night in Nashville. They made our little vacation so enjoyable and we miss them already!
