I have a habit of using birthday or Christmas money for necessities or just putting it in my bank account. I find nothing wrong with it, but I do think it bothers my family a little bit when their intent was to provide me with a gift - not groceries. I was having this conversation with Helena not long ago. She, too, had the same tendency. Since my family sent me handy gift cards this year, I decided to treat them as such and actually get myself a gift. With my gift cards combined, I picked out this fun, petal-fringed vest from The Outnet. It's something I would normally admire and not purchase - but now that I have it, I have already worn it twice. Best part? I still have a balance left on my gift card. I'm not promising it won't be spent on something horribly mundane.

Love the vest. I'm always a bit nervous to invest in more "wild" pieces like this, but sometimes you just have to go for it! I think you could find several excuses to wear that. And it's a good sign if you've already worn it twice!
ReplyDeleteSeriously great purchase, Keiko. That petal vest is so unique. I'm glad you treated yourself this time even though I agree that the urge to save birthday money rather than spend happens to me too :)

ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the petal vest! Adorable indeed.
ReplyDeleteThis jacket is amazing for sure! I do the same thing with birthday money, hence the reason everyone started giving me gift cards too. Which I am always grateful. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Keiko! Love how you layered a textured vest over buttery leather...makes for such a beautiful contrast and I'm sure quite cozy too! Fabulous!

Haha! My husband is like you, he takes gift money and spends it on necessities. I like to save it for gifts since we can't get things we can't afford otherwise. My family now knows to send gift CARDS, not checks.
ReplyDeleteNorth Meets South
so pretty!! i adore those boots. and that vest is perfect.
ReplyDeleteMy grandma actually writes in my birthday and Christmas card every year that I am to buy myself something "awesome" and that the check is "not to be use for food or to pay the utilities".
ReplyDeleteThat petal vest is magical. I would say that was definitely a beautiful investment!

What a great piece to invest in! I think it would look awesome with a bunch of different outfits, especially since it's black, and will go with nearly anything. Plus, it makes just enough of a statement to be powerful but isn't too in-your-face. I really love it. :) You spent that gift card well, haha
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean about just getting money instead of actual gifts. Gift cards are nice though because then you can randomly get something you actually want and it's "free". I love the vest and actually those boots look kind of like what I've been looking for. Are they comfortable? oh and your dog is definitely way too cute!

I do exactly the same thing and I've made a promise to myself that I won't spend gift money on rent or bills anymore. I bought myself a gorgeous Michael Kors handbag from Outnet with birthday money and it felt so much more special and was so nice to be able to tell my family what I spent their gift on. :)

ReplyDeleteThat's so funny that you mentioned that conversation because I was JUST thinking about that yesterday morning. I had a Macy's gift card leftover from my birthday and I said to myself "I'll restock some cosmetic essentials.." Necessary but pretty boring. Not going to lie, I left the store feeling kind of jipped out of a fun gift (my own fault, of course!). And that vest is incredible and probably not something you'd normally buy yourself... that's the best part!
ReplyDeleteI love it! You look so pretty, and I'm glad you decided to treat yourself. That's what birthdays are all about!
ReplyDeleteI die for your vest!!!!!! *swoon*

Aww...I love that vest! I also tend to save any $ gifted to me--my excuse to friends and family is that I feel more secure about it.
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing with my money; I'm glad I'm not alone.
ReplyDeleteI love the vest! The petals are so much fun and girly.
