I don't own a full length mirror. I'd love to act like it's because I'm not self aware, but considering that my blogging hobby/side job is the epitome of just that...I'll just tell you the truth. My freaking cats broke two, already. Those cats get crazy at night and bounce off the walls. Literally, not figuratively. Hence, the fallen mirrors and now, a broken ledge on their enormous cat condo. I'm not willing to risk any abscesses just to indulge myself in a daily, "How do I look?"
Instead, I end up walking out of the house looking kind of silly, every once in awhile (or maybe more frequently, depending on your opinion). With the absence of a mirror large enough to see more than my upper half, I make the mistake of asking Bobby if I look okay - and he always, always says I look great. This is not a knee-jerk reaction he learned in boyfriend training, nor is it because he truly thinks I always look great. It's because he wants to get the heck to wherever we are going and is not willing to give me the opportunity to change my outfit. I know this because I do the same thing to Kim all the time.
Kim, I'm kidding. Or am I?
Regardless, I met my friends for dinner on this particular day and ended up making a poor sock and footwear decision. I do love these boots, but they do not work with this outfit.
And that is the long-winded story about how I don't own a full length mirror. The end.

you are absolutely darling! and my mom has that same purse - might have to borrow it from her. ;) also those scalloped shorts and the lace tee are adorbs!
ReplyDeletelove the polka dot blouse

haha! :) i too had the same problem a few months ago... eventually i just HAD to get a full length mirror! hmm.. maybe try having one of those flat full length mirrors that go on the wall?
ReplyDeleteYour outfits really always look great though! :)
Ilene: I love the coach classics! My mom said she has a couple old ones in her store, so I might have to snag one!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute outfit...xxxx
ReplyDeletesoo cute
ReplyDeletea tablespoon of my life: Yeah, I've thought about that. I think at this point I have gotten used to it, but eventually I'm going to need/want one again!
ReplyDeleteOh, I was just thinking before I read the text that the boots were so unexpected and cute with the rest of your outfit!
ReplyDeleteIf that's the worst thing that happens when you leave home without looking in the mirror, then you have no room to complain! ;)
You're beautiful, Keiko! Brown suits you well!
ReplyDeleteI don't own a full length mirror, either, though I'm really not sure why. However, I think the shoes work with the outfit.
ReplyDeleteWhat, are you SERIOUS?! I think you look lovely. The boot and sock combo is adorable, on you and on pretty much everyone. It's one of my favorites! And you rock tis so well!!!
ReplyDeleteOur cats are the same way! Oh my gosh, at night, they sound like they are gonna bring down the house!
This outfit looks amazing! I can't get over the fact you disagree with your boots &&' the combination it created with your outfit! I personally think it turned out amazing! You have style Keiko,
ReplyDelete<3 ~ Angela !!
Thanks for the positive feedback: glad to know some of you actually like the combo! I spent the whole night feeling a little weird about it. Still not sure I love them with the outfit, though.
ReplyDeletelove your scalloped shorts! so cute!
ReplyDeletewww.petiteandhungry.blogspot.com
I love those scalloped shorts!
ReplyDeleteActually, now I feel foolish because I was about to comment about how great this outfit was and how amazing you look in it and how I loved the boots, scalloped shorts and layered pattern mixing goodness on top . . . but then I read your mirror extravaganza and feel like I don't know what I'm talking about. I mean, you are a fashionista through and through and even designed the amazing layered top--what the h-e-double toothpicks do I know? But, in true Aquarian style, I am going to disagree with you and say I think this outfit works on all levels. Mirror be damned!
ReplyDeleteIt's so weird how cat's go mad at night haha. I don't own a full length mirror either but my building's lobby luckily has one in the lobby so I can quickly change bad decisions before stepping out the door haha.
ReplyDeleteIt works!
ReplyDeleteFrannie: Well, I did put the boots on, so I thought they would look good. But then I started second guessing myself, since I didn't have a mirror...and then I looked at the pictures and felt that something was off. But that's what's fun about fashion - we all have different opinions on what works and what doesn't, and that's okay. I definitely don't know any more about fashion than anyone else. It's all just a matter of preference:)
ReplyDeleteVery nice the combination of dots and lace!
ReplyDeletebeautiful boots!
I agree with other commenters - I actually really like the boot/sock combo!
ReplyDeleteI went for like two years without a full length mirror - I would have to stand on the toilet and look in the bathroom mirror to see how my outfit looked. Finally one day, when the hinge on the toilet lid broke while I was standing on it and I almost fell off, my husband decided to were going to get a full length mirror for me :)
I feel your pain - when I used to live with my parents I would sneak into their room to use the kick ass mirror. Now, living on our own and in a pretty small space, I haven't really found a location to put one. The bathroom mirror or the vanity usually have to do.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, when I first went through the pictures I thought "hmm something is off" but I think the boots with the outfit rubbed off on me and I actually really like the combination!

My mirror is half-hidden behind the laundry hamper, so my mischievous kitties can't knock it down. It's hung high enough that I can still get a full-length view!
ReplyDeleteI thought the boots/socks looked fine, too, haha!
ReplyDeleteAlso... I know how it is having to cat-proof your house. Story of my life!

I think the socks with the boots looks darling! I finally invested in a full-length mirror, but alas my cat may cause a mishap, too. I really adore that dotted blouse on you!

But you look fantastic! >.< I love the layering you've got going on, it makes all these cool shapes and ultimately just makes me more and more jealous of your wardrobe and mad styling skillz. And (personally), the boots with socks look adorable. :) Have you tried hiding away a full length mirror in the bathroom or somewhere closed off, or do the kitties manage to bust their way in anyways?
ReplyDeleteI am L.O.V.I.N.G. those boots! And the socks just top it all off :)
ReplyDeleteLove the layering in this outfit, and I love those boots! I don't think they look bad with this outfit...maybe it's just me? Full length mirrors do come in handy when getting dressed though. :)

You're so cute! I agree - a full length mirror is an investment every woman should make!

when does your store open? you keep teasing :)
ReplyDeleteI have a story about why I don't have a full length mirror but that's too long for the comment box, it might explode on me or something! But yes, cats do come really alive at night and before you know it CRASHBAM! Something's broken again...so yeah you just can't have a full length mirror. Maybe if you put it on the ceiling? Okay...that won't work too well either.
ReplyDeleteYou're always soooo good at layering, I'm keeping this for an outfit inspiration! You did say that the boots don't go and I looked again, but they do though. Really, and I'm not saying that just so that you can get off your computer and take more outfit photos :D.
My fiance does that "you look great!" all the time especially when he's taking photos of my outfit and I look at the camera LCD and, no, it doesn't look all that great. *sigh* He's learning though so it's still good :)
- This comment is sooo long I should have just told you my full length mirror story.
You look fantastic! I LOVE all of the layering in that outfit. xo, rv

Love the outfit, dear Keiko, as usual! Funny enough, I cannot LIVE without mirrors. Last year in college, I didn't have a full-sized one, and I was studying abroad in Paris so I couldn't buy one then have to get rid of it while catching a flight... Anyways, I would go in the elevator, that had three mirrored walls, and have it go from the bottom floor to the top of the building non-stop. Sometimes people would get in and I'd have to act all natural, like "no, I'm not checking myself in the mirror even if that's what it looks like". Now I'm thinking, I'd give up all my mirrors (well, all except one) for two kittens... Aaah, they're little bundles of joy!
ReplyDelete(sorry for the looong post!)

living in a dorm through college, I never had a full-size mirror, and always craved for one! I would only see my upper half, and the window reflections were never true... so I often found myself making mistakes :)
ReplyDeleteLOL my two cats get CUH-RAZY at night too!!! It's like they're running a horse race going back and forth through the living room to the bedroom, trampling over us as we sleep! GAH! My mirror, knock on wood, has survived (also got a that heavy duty wood framed one from ikea, perhaps you can get that one!).
ReplyDeleteAnywho, had to share lol, I'm sure you've already done the whole, standing on a chair to see your lower half? I did that for a while too HA!
xoxo
So so cute.
ReplyDeleteThe Bootlace
The lace crop top blouse is breathtaking, and the scalloped shorts are beautiful too. Such delicate fabrics.

ReplyDeleteps, http://amandamantes.blogspot.com !
ha! My dude does the same thing. Sometimes I'm like, "You didn't even LOOK at me!" Up until a few weeks ago I didn't own a full-length mirror either and so I had to stand on the toilet to see my legs.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school I would stand at the end of the hall to catch my top half in the bathroom mirror then stand on a chest to see the bottom half:)
ReplyDeletewow what great layering!

ReplyDeleteClutching The Bow
Okay, I think I agree about the shoes. And I'm not trying to be mean!! I love the shoes, they are some of my favorite that you have worn on here, but you are right about something not working.Hmmmm, not sure which. But reality is, you still look awesome, and I love the fact that you were so honest about how you felt about it. I too, do not own a full length and its on my to-buy list as we speak. :) Hope that didn't offend!
ReplyDeleteKeiko, why don't you get those thin little square mirrors that sticks on the wall from ikea and make a full length one?? it'd be difficult for the kitties to break every single piece of those and u can replace them so easily!
ReplyDeleteHola!
ReplyDeleteThe white spotted shirt is amazing, I love polka dots! Trying to find some similar frames to those you're wearing but not by Ray Ban. Let's see what I can find ;)

This outfit looks great! on you. I have the same problem with my dog but instead I have to get rid of it because two things one: my dog used to bark all the time because he used to see himself and he probably though it was another dog or who knows what he was thinking and two I don't like having mirror in my room they just scared me... and no i'm not kidding it is true.
