Giraffe - Tallest Mammal

Outfit Details:
shirt - c/o DVF
vintage giraffe sweater - Frock you! Vintage Boutique (in San Diego)
shorts - H&M
boxy tote - c/o Foley + Corinna
vintage glasses - Guvnor's Vintage
Ladies, if you want to bring the men in, wear an animal themed sweater. I've found the secret.

There's something about a giraffe sweater that people simply cannot resist. I think I got more compliments on this kooky sweater than I ever have on anything else. I actually had a guy whistle at me. I was wearing a giraffe sweater and I got whistled at - which never happens in my normal life. The most I usually get is, "Hey you, move out of the way so I can see your hot friend!" True story. I like to think it's because I put out a cat-call-and-I'll-cut-you vibe. I also do not wear nearly enough giraffe sweaters.

Man-magnetism aside, my friend Vanessa's comment was the best of the day: "I think it's adorable. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing it, but it's adorable."

Clearly, she is just upset that it is vintage and therefore not readily available for her own closet. Her birthday is coming up...maybe I can track one down for her. A kitty themed one, perhaps?

p.s. If you know where my title is from, you are a winner (of nothing tangible, but you're still a winner).

I freaking love this sweater. I am always on the hunt for the perfect silly vintage animal sweater-I found one last year and it got away! Super jealous chick right here (points at self)

girrrrrrl. you know i live for this kind of thing, and i think this is my favorite outfit of yours, ever. i'd be cat calling you myself!

Mathilda said...

I don't want to disturb you. But this outfit is a bit on the Lolita side... I made this mistake once - and will never again (no, there where no knee-heighs involved ;-))

Keiko Lynn said...

Mathilda: Don't worry, I am totally kidding about wearing animal sweaters to attract men. If I was being serious, I would have said "Wear animal sweaters if you want to attract really creepy dudes in vans with blacked out windows."

love love love. not many ladies have the lady balls to sport a wild sweater like so. you pull it off nicely:)

Audrey: I actually thought of you and your kitty skirt when I wore this!

I am a firm proponent of the giraffe sweater. I have one myself--although I can't say it brings the boys to the yard the same way yours does. :D

i love it! and the title makes me think of those little pocky sticks with facts on them. i bet that isn't it though.

Taylor said...

PLEASE tell me the title is from off of a Yan Yan stick? Haha! That's the first thing I thought of when I saw it because I die whenever I get one of those.

the sweater is pedoriffically great. i'd try to talk to a girl wearing that under the assumption that she doesn't give a fuck about being sexy but wants to nerd out and get her golden book on.

i really like the hair look too.

I'm a little stunned that DVF made that sweater! It's...not at all like the other DVF things I've seen, hahaha. I love the whole outfit, and absolutely adore your glasses. I have a giraffe print dress.

Hmmmm. I think I am going to try and make a super-budget appliqued version of this. All I need to do is some hard-core embroidery (maybe a monkey? Or a little penguin?) and applique it onto a vintage sweater. Oh, and the back of the monkey/penguin too.
Ugh, I sense this is one of those bright ideas that ends up swallowing up my entire life!

Keiko Lynn said...

Elizabeth: I wore boots, partially because it was raining. But if I wore it again, I would steal your oxford idea - I think it works better:)

Keiko Lynn said...

Teddi: It's from one of my favorite snack treats, Yan Yans. They have weird saying on them and little cartoon animals. Some say "cat - say meow" or "Mouse - don't be timid" and there is one that says, "Giraffe - tallest mammal". I just always get a kick out of them!

I have seen this exact sweater at a thrift store. I didn't buy it, but was close. I had it in my hand and then put it down. I definitely think you have the chops to wear it :)

That is pretty hilarious.

I once got voted best dressed on the day I was wearing leggings, a men's Bob Marley t-shirt, and boots. It seems like a lot of the times when you don't care or think your outfit is kind of weird everyone loves it. But, in my case, I think all the voters were drunk...

In other news... I really like this sweater and I WOULD actually wear it. Not as adorably as you though!

Happy Sunday!
