Last week, I had a lovely evening out with a bunch of my favorite girls - which doesn't happen nearly enough (let's remedy that). I grew up in a family full of girls but went through this stage in my youth where I decided I was just one of the boys. Why? Because teenage girls can be pretty cruel, and the boys always treated me like a little sister - or maybe even a little brother (I think everyone thought I was a lesbian, even my great grandma [she was cool with it]). I soon realized that not all girls are alike and the catty ones should be viewed as an exception to the rule - because really, most of us are not that stereotype. I still love my guy friends, but there's nothing like an evening out with the ladies. Here's to never having to decide whether you're a guys' gal or girls' girl!

  1. Love this outfit, and that your lips match your bag! The MAC is one of my favorites, I get so much use out of it.

  2. Amen, sister. Growing up, I always had more guy friends b/c girls could be so catty. Today, I so so value my girl friends. And I just ignore the catty ones.

  4. You had a tomboy phase? That makes me admire/like you even more. You are so open to all kinds of style and it's really inspirational!

  5. Mal: When I got my first MAC (this one), I didn't know how much I would use it. I'm usually a big bag person - but I feel like these carry SO much for a small purse. I probably carry my MACs more than anything.

  6. Sarah S.: I had a MAJOR tomboy phase. Pretty much up until I was 18. I never wore dresses or skirts - I even tried to wear jeans to the prom, which was vetoed by my mom and my gay prom date.

  11. I totally agree with you! And now as an adult, haven't you noticed that women who say they hate other women are the worst offenders of all the things they supposedly despise about the female sex? As soon as I hear those words come out of someone's mouth I know to steer clear. :)

  13. You look smashing in the pink + black mixture, Keiko! You are such a rockstar. And I agree, I grew up with mostly guy friends, but sometimes a sensible girl’s night is much sought after.

  14. I'm totally with you on that, through high school i had 1 girlfriend and the rest of them were boys, we both were just one of them. I still relate faster to boys than to girls i think but my closets friends are girls now :) and i love them

  24. Keiko, I adore that lip color! How is the wearability of this UD lipstick? Does it last as long as a traditional lip liner, or does it come off pretty easily?

    Thanx for the insight!

  28. Hey Keiko! I just started following last week and I already LOVE your blog! I've at least browsed every post and already recommended it to my best friend. I can't imagine this tomboy, no makeup Keiko from high school. You should post some pictures because I would personally get a kick out of that. We are all changing all the time. The beauty of being human.

  29. You are too too fabulous.

Oh gosh, I understand when it comes cruel girls. I was talking to one of my guy friends and oh my goodness, he just looked at me and said,"...Girls are so mean. They're so harsh." And I'm thinking,"What kind of girls has he run into?" But seriously there's just something about us girls that have an inner beast that scares the heck out of some guys....haha anyhoots....

I love your glasses. Too much. :)

  30. Oh my goodness, I absolutely LOVE this outfit! So fierce yet feminine. I love how you toughened the whole outfit up a bit with the metal jewelry and then feminized it again with that gorgeous bag. I used to not be a lipstick girl (or lip gloss really...or make up in general. I was a very boyish girl until college!), but you've definitely converted me! I may have to online order some MAC products since places around here don't carry them. Keep up the fantastic work! :)

  46. Those shoes are rock star style for sure! I too hung out with the boys when I was younger. Girls are mean and the boys just don't care.

    ReplyDelete
  47. dude, i'm in the same boat. it's so hard for me to find a good girlfriend, cause they've always been so judge-y and catty. guys are so much more chill. and more fun to hang out with! my circle of friends has always been guys, but i do wish i could find a group of girls to dress up and go out with, or even just paint each other's nails. ha. i've always wondered what that'd be like- to be surrounded by a bunch of girls who actually like each other.

  48. Haha this is a very cute post! Totally reminds me of myself as 'the boy' among my girlfriends. Loving your boots by the way :)

  62. don't you love when you can be reflective about your own life? thanks for sharing - girls will always be necessary in your life - although boys can be refreshingly honest, there is NOTHING like kicking back with your girls and just hanging out :)

anyways... those booties are beastly - i'm OBSESSED...
