Makeup Monday: Bronze Goddess

After a skin cancer scare in high school, I vowed to protect myself from the sun and embrace the pale. My moisturizers and even some of my makeup have SPF in them, and if I plan on being outside, I slather myself with gobs of sunscreen. That being said, it can be a bummer being so pasty white in the summer. I originally intended on doing a totally different look today, but after standing next to naturally golden girl Lindsey, I decided to play around with the new Bronze Goddess goodies that were supplied to me by Estée Lauder. If you're looking for a Snookie bronze, this is not the look for you. But if you want a sun-kissed, glowy look to kick off the summer, keep reading for step by step instructions and what to use after the jump.

What I used:
Urban Decay Primer Potion (not pictured - oops!)
Estée Lauder double wear stay-in-place shadowcreme in Gold Dust
Estée Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow in Crystal Sand
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Island Oasis eyeshadow palette
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Soft Shimmer Bronzer
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess ShadowStick Duo in gold and bronze
Estée Lauder TurboLash Mascara (THIS IS AWESOME. It vibrates to coat your lashes!)
Smashbox lipgloss in Disguise

Steps to recreate this look:

(optional: go over liner with matching shadow)

(optional: go over liner with matching shadow)

Make sure to blend this by moving your (preferably large) brush in circular motions. You don't want to look like you have smudges of dirt on your face!

That's all! A sun-kissed look with no tanning required.

  5. BlushingNoir: They're not sheer at all, though I didn't build up the color much. They have a lot of pigment. Do you mean shimmery? They are quite shimmery, for sure! I haven't tried many of Chanel's products, but I love their lipsticks!

  10. Thanks, Julie Khuu! But to be fair, it's totally makeup. I didn't go through my face makeup details but I used Smashbox primer, Amazing Cosmetics Concealer and Make Up For Ever HD Foundation. Makes a huuuuuge difference.

  14. Very nice! I love when the skin is shining, only one thing i really do not like is this color of shadows. I mean, of course its just my opinion, but i´ve never like it and i think it doesnt look beautiful on anybody :-DD

    Anyways, love your blog

  15. Simbli: Thanks! I generally like these shadow colors on someone with warmer skin tones, so this was something different for me. Every time I wear a gold shadow, I border on looking sick. But I always try it...just in case one day I can pull it off, I guess. haha!

  18. Gorgeous makeup!

I just wanted to let you know that many sunscreens (especially U.S. brands) are actually pretty bad for you. Many can actually cause the cancer they're meant to prevent since they turn into harmful substances once they're broken down by the sun. I hope you're already well aware of this and are careful about which sunscreens you'll use, but if not, it's definitely worth looking into. I actually don't recommend wearing sunscreen at all unless you're going to be in direct sunlight for a long time. The vitamin D from the sun is a necessary vitamin in preventing skin cancer. Just my two cents. :)

  29. this is a very fresh look, but more than that, you have beautiful skin! everything and anything you put on it looks great...

i am quite empathetic for you though because I too have very pale skin on my face; however unlike you, while the rest of my body tans fine in summer, my face doesnt and instead i just get freckles. FRECKLES!

  35. You are SO gorgeous! Staying out of the sun is paying off! Good for you..tanning is so bad for your skin and I think being a little milky (or slightly bronzed) and wrinkle free is much sexier any way :)
