I am thrilled to announce my partnership with Rebecca Minkoff to raise funds and awareness for Animal Refuge Kansai (ARK), a non-profit organization aiding in the rescue and care of animals affected by the earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. Rebecca Minkoff has agreed to donate $1 for every new "like" on their facebook page - and they are giving away a one of a kind Japan MAC bag, as a thank you to one of my lucky readers, for your help in spreading the word. Let's raise some money for this wonderful cause! Here's how you can help:
1. Like Rebecca Minkoff and Keiko Lynn on Facebook to get the latest updates. For every new fan Rebecca Minkoff receives from now until June 6th they will generously donate $1 to ARK.
2. Share this post with friends (twitter, facebook, email, blog!), spread the word and help raise awareness for animals left homeless after the March 11th Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
3. Sponsor a pet from ARK for $36 per month (about 3000 Yen). Head here for details.
4. U.S. shelters have offered to accept animals from ARK in order to free up space for incoming rescues. If you can afford it, please consider sponsoring a flight (or partial flight).
5. Donate any amount you can afford. Every little bit counts.
One new fan will be selected to win my one of a kind Japan MAC, illustrated by artist Logan Real. Visit Rebecca Minkoff on Facebook on June 7th to see if you've won.
In addition to their final donation, they are sponsoring this little fur ball, Fairlady, in my name. Doesn't she look a little bit like Miku? I can't thank the Rebecca Minkoff team enough for their generous spirit and I hope you'll help us to spread the word.

What a great thing!

I know this is probably a debby-downer comment, but why would you fly animals from Japan to the USA? Australia is closer, and has comparable levels of development to the USA. I bring this up because I was shocked to see that the cost of a flight from Japan to the US is $1600. I'm not sure how many animals would be included for that price, but it just seems to me that the most cost effective thing to do with the animals is send them to the nearest country that can accommodate them, e.g. Australia. Of course, there might be even closer countries, like China, or Korea, but maybe they don't have as strong of a culture of rescuing animals as more Western countries?
ReplyDelete^ but China and Korea eats dogs for dinner, it's better to send them to Australia or USA. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteJenm: I cannot speak for ARK because I am not a representative, but I believe the cost of a flight would cover multiple animals, not just one. As to whether or not Australian shelters or otherwise would even be willing to accommodate their overflow, I do not know. What I do know is that US shelters have offered to help and ARK is taking help wherever it can get it. They are working to rescue animals even at the risk of their own health (particularly around Fukushima) and we're just trying to bring them as much relief as possible.
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing idea! So glad that you're doing something so incredible.
ReplyDeleteYou are one inspiration, lady.
