Makeup Monday: Inspired by Adele

As I was flipping through last month's Teen Vogue (yes, I'm a subscriber, even though I'm 26), I came across this stunning photo of Adele:

I loved the use of purples in not just the shadow, but also the liner and mascara. Paired with a light, neutral lip and beautiful contouring, this went to the top of my list of looks I wanted to try on myself. I figured I would make it into a Makeup Monday and show you my own take on it! I'm saving the contour tutorial for a later date, so this look mostly focuses on the eyes, with some mild contouring using Estée Lauder's Bronze Goddess underneath and Smashbox Illusion highlighter on my cheekbones.

For what I used and step by step instructions, continue reading after the jump.

What I used on my eyes:
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Estée Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow in Crystal Sand
Psychedelic Sister eyeshadow Urban Decay Fun Palette

Estée Lauder Stay in Place Gel Eyeliner in Stay Violet
Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Mascara Duo (also comes in green, blue and a more fuchsia-ish purple to coordinate with your eye color - and you can find these at most stores. I got mine at CVS)

What I used on my cheeks and lips:
Estée Lauder Soft Shimmer Bronzer (contour)
Smashbox Masquerade Baked Fusion Soft Lights Palette - ooh, it's on sale! (highlight)
Julie Hewett Bijou Collection Lipstick in Biba

Follow the steps below to recreate the eye look:

Finished Look:

That's it! Let me know if you have any questions or need product recommendations. Also, I would love to see pictures of any look you've recreated from my tutorials. Post them on my Facebook Page!

That looks gorgeous and you make it look so easy! I have a feeling when I try it, I'll make myself look like I have a black eye! ha ha!

I love the gradient look of the eyes, especially because it still looks a bit cat-eye.

I might just have to push through my fear of colored mascara for this.

you are so good at make up! i'm in awe of your ability to figure out how to recreate a look. i feel like i'm good at doing make up but really suck at finding the right products to recreate a look. so i always just stick to my same old colors and never branch out. your dior look was the first time i went out and bought a bunch of new colors. anyway, this long rambly comment is basically just to say that you have an incredible talent and my recent desire to have a bit more fun with my make up is entirely thanks to you. =)

Full Time Fabulous

I love this! I have been on a total Adele kick as of late. I also got a super sweet Lorac purple eyeshadow pallet for my wedding makeup that might work with this.

Thanks!

I really like this on your brown eyes! Now, what is your trick to getting that perfect parallelogram shape? Do you use a special brush or anything? Any time I try this kind of look I have to use an old business card to create that perfect line in the eye shadow, but I have never notice you mention such a trick, you are just that good! :)

stunning! you captured this look perfectly and to the point when i saw it i said stunning out loud =) xx

Great tutorial! I might get up the courage to try this soon.

Ashley: Though I'm a fan of the tape trick (I've used it in a tutorial before), I usually don't use anything as a guide. I used a damp eyeshadow brush (a dense one), which helps for getting a precise line, but usually I don't worry about perfect lines because I'm going to be blending it anyway!
