I get questions about my messy bun all the time, and I've always been hesitant to do a tutorial. Why? Because this is my lazy go-to - and I never really knew how to do a step by step on how to make your hair into a rat's nest. I tried demonstrating it with photos, but it's really difficult to do your hair in slow-mo and use a remote at the same time. I ended up just doing a video. This is basically just like the easy little bun/ponytail hybrid that every gal has done at some time in her life...just messier. Way messier. It's just the way I like it, because you don't have to worry about upkeep throughout the day. Hope the video helps, but if not...I'll try again;)

EDIT:

:D I LOVE when bloggers post videos, always cool to put a voice to the blog. Love your tutorials, this one is so much easier than I figured it'd be. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat timing! Ha, I just posted a bunch of bloggers and their buns here.
ReplyDeleteAhh!!! I was JUST yesterday wishing you'd post something about how to do this hairstyle! Thank you!! :D
ReplyDeleteCute babe! Pretty informative, but yeah I totally agree, it's all slight of hand at this point when you're so used to it...tough to point out the correct formula...Great job!

great video. i never thought this is so easy!
ReplyDeleteLovely! Will definitely try this out soon! Looks so easy but with a fantastic outcome! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOO l loved this cute tutorial!! Thanks for showing us how to do your signature messy bun. I am always envious of your lovely hair when I see your pictures because you look adorable & very chic without trying too hard. Can't wait to try this out on my own hair!! Love your blog, as always!
ReplyDeleteIt's like messy geisha hair. It's always strange seeing videos of you. Your voice is never what I expect and I am always surprised! But in a nice way, of course :)
ReplyDeletelove it. but i can't seem to find ur link for the spray

great tutorial! i am always looking for new ways to do buns. i love that style. its normally my go to hairstyle too.
ReplyDeleteAshley: I'm sorry! I just added it to the post. Thank you for pointing that out.
ReplyDeleteGreat video tutorial!! I noticed you said your hair is "fine" but it always looks so voluminous in all your pictures, what's your secret? Also, what's the volumizing powder you used?
ReplyDeleteLidi @ Eclectic Flair
Angsthase: This is why I can't watch myself on video. I hate the sound of my voice! I also sit there and pick apart everything. So awkward.
ReplyDeleteThe go to hair style is sometimes the best one! Looking wonderful as always.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I used one of your make up tutorials as a basis for my eye makeup... came out wonderful

Eclectic Flair: I just edited the post (forgot to include it) with a link to the volume powder, which is by Sachajuan. It's the best! When I wear my hair down, if I want it to be sleek, I don't use anything but a large barrel curling iron (which gives volume just by the mere curling factor). If I want it a little undone, I swear by Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. And always a little Volume powder at the roots.
ReplyDeleteGreat little video you've put together there! If only I had the thickness and length of your hair, I'm pretty sure I'd be wearing my hair in that style every day.

ReplyDeleteThank you for doing the video! I am definitely going to try to pull that off. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video. :) I will try to do this if my hair is longer, hehe.
ReplyDeletehttp://itsawomenworld.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this is the answer you're looking for, but I assume your problem is that parts of your video are cut off on the blog, but not on Youtube itself?
ReplyDeleteYou should be able to change the length and width from your video when you get the code from Youtube (if you're still using the old, longer code version, you'll have to change it twice in the same code). Otherwise you can do it manually, just make the numbers after 'width' and 'height' smaller, but try to keep the same proportions.
Always enjoy reading your blog!
love your videos! I found myself watching this tutoral although my hair are very short.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh Thank you Thank you for posting this! My hair desperately needed this tutorial! You saved me <3
ReplyDeleteThis is great. I'm growing out my hair, and lately it's been so muggy outside (I live in tornado alley) that my hair gets frizzy the moment I walk out the door. Thanks for the tutorial!!
ReplyDeletei love your hair & makeup tutorials, I'd be lost without them!

Now I'm wishing I had long hair...
ReplyDeleteMy hair is complicated, "heavy" and so it just "sticks" to my head, after a few hours, so I always wear it short! But this tutorial is great!!! Some amazing tricks to pull it up and make it appear more voluminous.
Thanks!!!
I tried this this morning, just because I'm bored of my old pony tail. I wore it to work to teach Gr 8 French. I got soooo many compliments for my students (and coworkers)! haha. My favourite was "It's gangster". Whatever that means! :) Thanks.
ReplyDeletebeautiful! who cuts your hair? i live in the hood and am looking for someone new.
ReplyDeleteSo funny cause on the previous post I commented on your hair and wanted to ask how you do it, but didn't bother :) Love that messy bun and definitely going to try it!
ReplyDeleteyay! Thank you! <3
ReplyDeleteabsolutely love the messy bun, thank you!
ReplyDeletehey what kind of hair ties do you use?i can't find ones that are stretchy and strong enough to hold up all my hair.

ReplyDeleteWhere can I get Ur glasses frames? Love ur style!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome tutorial! Thank you. I have shortish/medium length hair so hold thumbs for me that I can do this!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Just discovered your blog. LOVE IT.
Your blog is great. I've been trying out many of your tutorials. The messy bun is my favorite and I'm slowly mastering it. I have super straight long hair that's crazy slippery. I need to tease it a lot and double wrap it to get the same look as you. Practice makes perfect. Thanks for posting the video. You are awesome!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Keiko... I did your tutorial, and it worked great! I also ordered the hair product, since I don't have anything that does quite the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for your super helpful tutorial! Now I can look almost as sexy as you, without trying too hard!
;-)
xo
i love the way you do your messy bun. i tried it with pigtails and they came out so cute!!! thanks for the tutorial ♥
ReplyDeleteAs a mom of four boys with long hair but no talent in styling it - I so appreciate your tutorials - especially this little video! I can't wait to try this!
ReplyDeletexx
