Makeup Monday: Spring Trend

Bold lips (paired with otherwise minimalistic makeup) were all over the Spring '11 runways. The look was favored by Jil Sander, DVF, Fendi and many others - but Jil Sander's bright pink lip and nude face was my personal favorite. Since I can't leave well enough alone, I added mascara and blush (they skipped both) and mixed in a bit of highlighter with my foundation. Though this look is all about the lips, I would advise against going completely bare faced - unless you are blessed with perfect skin and absolutely no undereye circles.

Products used:
Make Up For Ever HD Primer in Neutral
Make Up For Ever HD foundation in 110
Make Up For Ever Uplight in 22
Make Up For Ever HD concealer
Make Up For Ever Aqua Smoky Lash
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Petticoat (discontinued)
Make Up For Ever lip liner in fuchsia 16C
Make Up For Ever lipstick #36
(Make Up For Ever products generously provided by the company)

- Start with a moisturized face.
- Apply primer all over.
- Mix a fraction of a pump of Uplight (or another highlighter) into your foundation and apply all over face. Use concealer where necessary, concentrating under eyes and around your nose.
- Apply blush on apples of your cheeks, then dab three tiny dots of highlighter on your cheekbones and blend.
- Apply highlighter (or shimmery eyeshadow) to the inner corners of your eyes, and then one coat of mascara on lashes.
- Line lips completely, blend if necessary.
- Using a lip brush, fill in lips with bright pink lipstick. Blot. Done!

  2. I love that color! So fun for spring :) I have a quick question. What's the general rule for lip liner? I've never used it, so I don't know if you have to match it with the color lipstick or if you can just buy a lighter neutral shade for all colors. Help por favor?? :)

  5. Ahh, the benefits of being young--I can go without foundation, and that I will take advantage of as long as I possibly can! I tried a look like this the other day, with a completely bare face, aside from a slight bit of blush, and a bold red lip. I loved the interesting proportions provided by the bright lip and my blunt bangs. And who's to let a couple of stares bring you down?
    You look fabulous, Keiko!

  7. Keiko, could you tell us what you thought about the quality of the lipstick and lip liner? I want to start wearing lipstick since I currently only wear tinted lip balms, but I'm worried about the lipstick being drying. Was this drying? How do you prevent it? Thanks for your advice!

  10. I've really been loving bold lips lately and have attempted a few times but always seem to go overboard on the mascara. Thanks for the tips! Also, I love your new haircut!

  13. This is probably the only way I would have the balls to wear super bright lipstick, so I'm totally in! I think you look stunning and effortless.

  20. Beautiful Keiko!

I bought this exact color a couple weeks back, and wore it to the beach the other day. Your complexion is a great match for it!

@Origamidumpling, the lipstick is a bit dry, but that makes it stay on reallyyyyyyyy well!

  26. You lucky thing! Make Up Forever make such amazing make up (it's also irritatingly hard to get in the UK - dammit, Sephora! Open HERE!). Great look - you normally put such an emphasis on the eyes (at least a little more than this) so you look so different! But equally beautiful, of course.

  27. Great look! I did the same only with darker shade of pink lipstick. I din';t look good with such light pink on my lips. And I also couldn't refuse using mascara!
    But you look stunning!

  28. Despite you rocking the look, I'm not really into it, to be honest. It reminds me too much of Paz de la Huerta on her off-key days ;-) No matter what the runway says :-)

  30. Lili: hahaha that's exactly what I thought! Honestly, I kind of hate this look on me - but I love it on others. I need something on my eyes because my lashes are so minimal.

  31. Michele M. : It's good to have a neutral shade (one that matches your lips) on hand, but for bright or dark colors, I like the shade to match the lipstick. Line the lips, then fill in completely.

  32. Paige: Hang onto that youthful glow as long as possible. I used to never wear foundation, but as soon as I started, my skin never looked as good without it!

  33. origamidumpling: This lipstick is great - lots of staying power and not drying (same for the lipliner). But it's important to exfoliate and moisturize your lips, first. If you have an issue with drying, get a lip primer. I will say that I just got another MUFE lipstick (a dark, dark shade) and I had major issues with it. Since these are the only two I have, I haven't decided whether it's a hit/miss lipstick line, or if I just got the one dud.

  34. Krystle: I have sideswept bangs with a good amount of texture, but I'm not sure how to exactly describe it. When I wear them straight down, they're not completely even. I would take pictures to the stylist!

  39. You look amazing! I love the nude looking face with bright lipstick. I cannot really pull lipstick off as well as you though! But I might give this a try anyways :)
