Outfit Details:
J Brand jeans - gift
Garren platforms (on sale!) - courtesy of Blowfish (15% off with code BFKEIKO15)
Parker backpack/shoulder bag - courtesy of Melie Bianco
sunglasses - courtesy of 80s Purple
vintage silk scarf - from my mom's store, Hourglass Consignment
vintage fishies necklace - gift from my mom
Keeping that in mind, it should be no surprise that though my mom bought me a whole new set of luggage back in October, I only recently got rid of my old suitcase. Really, it's more so because it was in my closet and I forgot, but still - kind of typical of me. Inside, I found two things: my favorite fishies necklace and a seven year old letter from my dad. It was strange, because my sister happened upon her own letter from dad (from the same time) in the same week. It would have been weirder if she found a fish necklace, but alas, no fishies. I was happy to be reunited with my necklace and took the opportunity to wear it as much as possible. Still don't know what to do about the letter.

You look like a 70' jungle queen and I love it. You may wanna be careful about not throwing things out. One day all of us are gonna see you on an episode of Hoarders.

Kayla: Hoarders is terrifying. Believe me, you will never see me on there because if I end up a hoarder, no film crews are allowed to see it. JK;) No, I'm not that bad. I have such a small space that I've become quick to get rid of old clothes, papers, etc. - anything unnecessary, The suitcase was actually pure laziness/forgetfulness, because it was tucked in the back of a closet.
ReplyDeleteawesome sunnies, loving these flares

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love that rucksac, it's exactly what I've been looking for to wear when I bike around town. I wanted a sac, not a backpack persay. I love Melie too, I have several of their purses from years ago and I always get compliments when I use them. Love the fishies too!

AHHHH I love this fish necklace!! I wish my mom had good enough fashion sense to give me awesome gifts..
ReplyDeleteActually, this whole outfit is adorable, and I just love the way you tie your scarf! I have tried it so many times, and I still just haven't gotten the hang of it quite right! :(
Is that a matching shirt and headband?? Where in the world did you find them??? Love the jeans, and the pursey-backpack thing. It's always lovely to see such outfit cohesion as yours.

ReplyDeleteThe fishes necklace is lovely, glad you were able to recover it! I love how you said you were afraid to disturb your stuffed animals, and that Toy Story proved your theory right. Adore all the leopard print galore.

Your outfits are always so cute... I also love your scarf headband--how do you do that??? I've been trying to figure it out since the last post of yours where you wore your hair like that! Hahaha :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a nice outfit. I love how you did your hair!
ReplyDeleteI love finding letters that I haven't read or seen in a long time. Although you don't seem so happy to have found that letter. I hope it wasn't too stressful to re-read it; letters can be so full of emotion and memories. Anyway, you look stunning (as always). Happy Sunday/Monday!
ReplyDeleteIf you don't mind my asking, what happened to your dad? I remember reading another post that mentioned him being in jail but didn't say why.
ReplyDeleteThat necklace is fantastic! :) And I love the glasses and turban.
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos!! I love your outfit.

I've never been interested in J Brand jeans because I thought they were all skinny fit, but those are FABULOUS!!!! They are so flattering! :) I have to go get a pair now...

I love, love, love the necklace.
ReplyDeleteI am elated to finally know someone else who used to treat their stuffed animals like this! At night, I used to play a game called "Overboard" where one of my stuffed animals would fall off the bed (which doubled as a boat) and I would have to save him and nurse him back to health.
ReplyDelete...is this an overshare?
Have a lovely day!

i guess it all depends on what that letter says. I grew up away from my dad. Once I turned 20 and after I was married I had more contact with him. After he was diagnosed with cancer I became his health care facilitator, taking him to his treatments 4-5 days a week (having lost my job made this possible and no one else available to do it.) I got to know him pretty well. I didn't love everything I learned about him, but I can't imagine not ever taking that time, that risk of putting myself out there. What if you never get another chance? You don't know what tomorrow holds.
ReplyDeleteI love your head scarf!

Kali: My dad is in prison - he has been in and out most of my life but he's not scheduled to get out until 2019 (he has been in since 2000). It's all drug related, or theft/forgery (which I consider drug related, since he does it for that reason). It's a shame.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: It's less about the letter and my willingness to reconnect with him and more about whether or not he wants to see me. I've already requested to be put on his visitor's list, which he has to approve, so he knows I want to see him. I just haven't checked to see if I'm on the list yet, because I'm kind of afraid they'll tell me I'm not. We'll see; I just have to work up the courage.
ReplyDeleteGabby: It's not matching but they coordinate pretty well!
ReplyDeleteCommon Couture: I'll make a tutorial, promise! I have just been busy since I got back. I plan on doing one this week.
ReplyDeleteLindsey Leigh: That totally sounds like something I would do!
ReplyDeleteHi Keiko,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog from lookbook.nu. I thought I like your style and creativity (reconstructed clothes...thats genius!). I wonder what camera you use to take pictures of your daily outfit. Im planning to buy one...a nice camera investment budget range between $500-$700.
I really appreciate if you could assist me with this one.
-xookie
I didnt read your FAQ. I will look for the camera similar to yours ;)
ReplyDeleteI have the same or very similar jeans and was also wearing them today! What a coincidence...completely different style of top though!
ReplyDeleteLove this look...effortlessly chic. That's a great necklace. I've never seen one like it ♥
ReplyDeleteTHIS is how a person dresses up a pair of jeans! The headscarf with sunglasses, totally movie star.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I do the same thing with anthropomorphizing inanimate objects (but it was The Brave Little Toaster that did it to me, back when I was a kid. God, that scene with the air conditioner! Scarred forever.) I am such a packrat now.

I have the same problem! I feel absolutely horrible when I have to throw something away...
ReplyDeleteYou look very 70's! Love your hair!

I just found your blog through 'The Clothes Horse', and I love your style! I'm hoping to move to New York myself after I finish my degree, sometimes it's hard to experiment with certain looks when you live in such a hot climate like I do.

ReplyDeletexx,
Ale.
Haha I did that with soft toys too (totally dont now tho, ahem...). Loving your outfit, excellent jeans :)
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit! Love those shoes, I'm debating getting them. Weird about the letter, but the necklace is great!
ReplyDeleteI still do the same thing with my stuffed animals! I feel bad when I kick them off. Where's your dad? Great necklace, I love the flare jeans!

I love your writing style! And your outfit posts are so refreshing!
ReplyDeletei love your outfit! so 70's!! get it grrl!!
ReplyDeleteGosh you are so breathtakingly beautiful - i love your posts, your style, your words, and that you're gorgeously curvy - you'd bring Sartorialist to his knees :) Can i ask what size (US) you are? In a world of Size 0 images where we get confused & deluded by what we see... it would just be wonderful to know what "size" is real, what it looks like objectively and how beautiful it can be. Thanks for sharing RE: your father... hope he has the courage to open his world to you xx V
ReplyDeleteI still want to know how you do the adorable headband-scarf-handkerchief thing - I can't seem to get it right! Would loooove if you'd do a tutorial on it.
ReplyDeleteI got chills when I read what you said about your stuffed animals. I did that too and used to put a "spell" on my dolls so that they wouldn't miss me when I was gone. That song Jessie sings in Toy Story 2 is heartbreaking.
ReplyDeletethis is such a sweet post. toy story 2 is one of the best.
