First things first:

I saw three pandas last Monday. I almost died of happiness.

The whole reason I got to see pandas: Lauren and John. Washington, DC happens to be the halfway point (just about) between my best friends and me. We don't have best friend rings but if we did, they would have been simultaneously glowing. I always miss Lauren, but lately, we were both missing one another so much it was awful. Remedy? A pretty spontaneous rendezvous at the halfway point. It was such a good day. I miss them so much.
John and I have been friends for freaking ever - we grew up just a couple minutes away from one another. I wish I had our second grade class pictures on hand. Lauren and I have been best friends since 6th grade. We bonded over our mutually tragic lives and then it grew from there;)
I played matchmaker for the first and only time when we were 16 (I think?). I use the term "matchmaker" loosely, because I really just not-so-craftily pushed them together. Shortly after the initial introduction, they started dating. Now, they are married; I was the Maid of Honor. They currently reside in Virginia and I'm in New York and I miss them every single day. I hope we can do this more often. It was one of the best days I've had this year!

I know it's a pretty sloppy getup but I've been slacking with my outfit posts. Here's what I look like when I am being very lazy! Lazy has been happening quite often, lately. The pants are too big on me and they don't sit high enough anymore, which makes the legs too long. But they are like wearing pajamas!
Onto the animals!

Pandas!

They were holding hands. How cute is that?

These otters were so funny. The one on the right was crying to us about something. I don't know what he was so upset about; I don't know how to speak otter.

Meerkat. Meerkitty?
Love love,
Keiko Lynn
Edit: almost forgot the outfit details! Blazer and silk camisole - thrifted, ruffled cardigan - Beacon's Closet, high waisted trousers - Urban Outfitters (on sale for $10 a couple years ago) shoes - 80%20, panda ears and panda bag - Smithsonian National Zoo

Aww! Seems like you had fun! Those pandas... and a meerkat? Looks like you just walked off the set of The Lion King!
ReplyDeleteLove the pants, by the way!
This is so lovely! Not a sloppy outfit at all :)
ReplyDeleteOMG LOVE THE PANDA EARS!!!
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteSo I just bought one of your dresses (the one that's going to London, UK) and I thought "hmmm I am going to have a look at her blog now" and I see a post about pandas and meerkats. So I think: "this is fate, this was meant to be!".
I have the same panda ears that I bought in London zoo where sadly there are no pandas, but I did "adopt" the meerkats there for two years in a row which was nice, although it barely made up for the lack of pandas.
I am totally rambling here, but nothing gets me going like a pretty girl who makes cute dresses and writes about animals.
So goodnight, I can't wait to receive my dress, I am planning on making it a central part of my London Fashion Week wardrobe, will certainly blog about it and let you know.
Take care xxx Laetitia
Laetitia:
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I hope you like the dress; I'm glad it is going to a fellow panda lover:)

Um hello? That getup is amazingly cute! Where did you get the pants? (I'm guessing they are vintage)
ReplyDeleteThose animals are just so adorable!! Especially the meerkat!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't look like a sloppy get-up, I like the electric blue against the grey trousers. I think it's a great outfit.

i know you are more of a dress/skirt wearer, but this outfit is divine! where are those pants from? they are so so cute!
ReplyDelete~pemora
Thanks, everyone! I edited to add the outfit details. The pants are actually from Urban Outfitters - sale rack. They were two sizes too big, so I had to alter them. But now they're too big again, so they hang a little lower than they should. I will probably take them in again.
ReplyDeleteYour sloppy is way better than my sloppy. My sloppy = track shorts and stained t-shirt. :) The pants are really glamorous-looking... Very 1930s.
ReplyDeleteI love all the cute animals, especially the crabby otter. :D
Silly pictures of humans and pandas, I love it! Keiko, though I was pleasantly surprised to see you wear pants, I think the best part about your outfit are the panda ears. :D

ReplyDeleteThose pandas are super cute and I really like your trousers.
ReplyDeleteA bit random, but did you model for Debbie Stoller's Stitch Nation? I ran across a pattern for a hat and the model looks just like you.

ReplyDeletealso, how cute of you to play matchmaker for your best friends! what a happy threesome you make!

ReplyDeleteAndipants: Yes ma'am, I did a couple of modeling thingamajigs for Debbie a couple months ago...where did you see it? I didn't think they were out yet!
ReplyDeleteEven "sloppy" outfits can look chic :) Especially at something lowkey like the zoo!

Pandas are amazing and meerkats are funny looking! I once tried to sing that Deerhoof song, "Panda Panda Panda," to a panda in a zoo and everyone laughed at me and made fun of me lots. I like your lazy outfits, especially the long pants!
ReplyDeleteMy co-blogger Meggy and I are holding a little giveaway over at our blog (Fashion for Writers) Please enter it (if you feel so inclined!)

I love your outfit. You look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI wish my sloppy looked as lovely as your sloppy! And seeing you in Panda Ears just reinforces my idea that you're a lovely little ray of sunshine that makes me smile! I love that you're uninhibited enough to just do what you like. I say that because I catch no end of flack for being the sort of girl who likes to wear tiaras for no reason and come from a group of people who think I'm utterly mad. <3
ReplyDeletewow, such a beautiful story...
ReplyDeleteAnd, I love, love, love your lazy outfit!! Looks great!! The pants are cool!!
Have a great week!!
Hello! I don't know you, but I'm glad you were in my part of the country for the weekend! The National Zoo is great, and your outfit, of course, is lovely. :)
ReplyDeletePandas are so lovely and cute. Your outfit adorable as always. Best wishes from europe
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? This outfit is anything but sloppy. I would use the word chic, but to each her own ;)
ReplyDeletehaha I have to agree with the above posters. I consider myself dressed up if a hoodie or sweatpants aren't involved.

Aww. Yay for pandas! I love that you wore a panda ear headband - so cute!
ReplyDeleteOMG it's a Stokstaartje (dutch for Meerkat. Stockstaartje translated to english is stick-tail).
ReplyDeleteAnyways, too cute! I almost ordered a comfy panda suit for staying at home times. I would love being a lazy panda!
PANTS! I think this is the first time I've ever seen you sportin pants since I started reading your blog! Love the animal photos, they are too adorable. The meerkat totally reminds me of my mom's cat Chibi. So glad you had an amazing day! ;)
ReplyDeleteI bought that same panda bag when I was in DC this past summer! Love it! Yay to pandas!
ReplyDeletepandas are the absolute cutest!! loving the panda ears and the trousers! :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like such a fun day! And those pants are AMAZING, especially with the pretty tank/blazer combo--not sloppy at all. Super cheap Urban sales are one of my all time favorite things. :-)

ReplyDeleteI said "Oh my God" at every picture...in a good way. A really good way. :)

I really like this look a lot.
ReplyDeleteAnd the trip looks like it was lots of fun.
Hey Keiko! I love your blog and I think you're super cute, but sometimes I feel like your outfits could be better! Now is the perfect example; I absolutely love that blazer and those slacks, but the shirt and shoes aren't working! Maybe you could have worn a sequined shirt and some different heels--Just my opinion. I look forward to your next post!
ReplyDeletethose pants look really great on you, in my opinion. i saw the pics and the first thing i thought was, "ooh i love those pants!" and i think that someone has to wear something well in order for me to think that about their clothing. =]
