Old Faithfuls

I’ve had this jacket for years and refuse to let it go. It isn’t because I think it’s terribly cute; I’m not fond of the faded wash and it’s threadbare at the elbows (they’re actually ripped now). It’s just a simple little denim motorcycle jacket but it’s the most comfortable thing in the world. I guess I have a sentimental attachment to it. My mom wants me to throw it away; she gets on my case about things like that. She always called them my “old faithfuls.” I don’t know what it is that makes me so attached to certain items but they usually stay in my possession until someone sneaks them into the garbage. I can’t tell you how many pairs of my old faithful shoes my mom has thrown away! I purposely didn’t bring this jacket to Florida because I knew she’d razz me about it.

These pictures are from before I got sick (boohoo). Kim and I headed to Williamsburg for the Built by Wendy sample sale, Beacon’s Closet and Artists and Fleas. The sample sale was lacking, probably because we went the second day. We both made purchases at Beacon’s, which you’ll see in future posts. I borrowed Kim’s dress for the day, which she has owned for months and still hasn’t worn. I decided someone needed to wear it, so I stole it from her closet.

After Beacon’s, we headed to Artists and Fleas. Our main objective was to see Lauren and Craig’s booth, Corvus Noir. They’re one of my new sponsors and since they’re based in New York, I had to see their jewelry in person.

All of their designs are reconstructed and reworked from antiques and vintage findings. 1920s pen knives, pocket watches, old tintype photos, decanter labels – everything is so pretty and haunting at the same time. It’s totally up my mom’s and my alley – we just spent the last twenty minutes oohing and ahhing over the unusual features. Fellow antique/vintage nerds! In the end, I had a really hard time deciding on which one I wanted…I went back and forth between the rhinestone necklace and the pen knife.

I ended up choosing the reworked rhinestone necklace, which I’ve already worn several times. Thank you, Craig and Lauren!

After leaving their booth, we perused the rest of the market. Neither of us found anything until we were just about to leave.

What did Kim get? The two craziest rings she could find, of course. Colorful, girly, tacky, remember? I wish I could find the business card for this girl’s jewelry…she had some really cool stuff. The huge one is a little much for me but I think I might borrow the rainbow one!
