As All Get Out

I'm fine, really - just overwhelmed. I'm having an off week, maybe even month; my confidence has been in the toilet and I have more work than one person can possibly handle. Lauren blames the former on my trip to Florida, because of all of the bikini bods and perfectly tan and blonde beauties. I think she might be right. Once the winter layers come off, you tend to get really self conscious about what's underneath. At least, I do. I guess that doesn't make it excusable. Man, I am ridiculous.

On the plus side, today was much better. I got a little dressed up, in hopes of boosting my spirit and motivating me to plow through this work. It sounds completely superficial but getting gussied up makes me want to work and be productive. By the way, in order to even wear this dress, I had to replace the stupid zipper. It was such a pain, because there is boning in the bodice. I also made myself a little bow tie, because that's just what I do. My getup made me feel like a girl Willy Wonka. I wish I had a jaunty top hat.

Obviously, my chest is not big enough to fill out the dress...but I was not about to mess with that. Maybe next time I will just stuff my bra (I will not).

Vintage jacket - Beacon's Closet (free, with credit)
Vintage dirndl - Beacon's Closet (also free - I replaced the zipper)
Vintage blouse - thrifted in Cape Cod and altered (I think I paid a quarter)
Vintage belt - Hourglass Consignment (my mom's shop)
Handmade bow tie - Postlapsaria (made by me)
Tights - Old Navy ($2)
Vintage heels - Beacon's Closet (free, with credit)

  2. what's to be conscious about? you are very pretty :)

  3. I know exactly how you feel. The self-consciousness always seems to come out out whenever Spring and Summer roll around.

As soon as I saw this outfit I thought "Girl Willy Wonka!" and I'm so glad that you mentioned it too because I wasn't sure if you would take that as good or bad (it's definitely good, in my opinion).

  4. That has got to be the cutest outfit I have ever seen. I love the addition of the bow tie! How clever!!

Sorry to hear you're feeling under the weather. I've been moping around a lot this past month, too. I blame it on the gloomy Spring weather.

  6. I honestly think you are simply gorgeous!! Everyone has those down days - i'm having one today and seeing you look absolutely amazing is not helping :) Who cares about those silly, thin blonde things - they may be pretty but they are not beautiful and they certainly don't have your brains, talent or eyes for cute little details like bow ties (which i'm currently on the hunt for but may end up just making my own too!).

Feel better - at least you have spring to look forward too :)

  11. Not to sound like a kiss ass, but you're so cute to be self-conscious, because anytime you make a blog post I think, "Wow, she's sit & still manages to look this fantastic?" or "She's working at home & still looks better than I do in an office of 200 people."

You're absolutely darling, ignore the blond beach bunnies!

And this outfit is to die for. It's so cute it makes me hurt.

  12. I don't believe it's Superficial at all! I've had the flu for the past couple of days. Yesterday I wore tracksuit pants, but today I thought "You know what? I'm going to put on one of my favorite tops and a little makeup" and I feel better! =)

You look gorgeous! Your belt is just amazing.

  19. Alright Keiks. This is one of my very favorite outfits of yours. I think you look very amazing. Not sure what's different about your hair, but it's cool. I also think it would look good with some brown flat oxfords or loafers or something, but maybe that just comes from me hurting my feet running around on stage all day. Gorgeous though!

  20. I know it doesn't make a single jot of difference when someone tries to give you a compliment when your feeling like this - but gah, your creativity and beauty and - oh just about everything, i admire it all.
The dress it awesome, and the bodice looks great the way it is - if it was filled it would start to look a bit rennaisance faire-ish. Small boobs are good boobs yo.

  26. Oh darling! You are one of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen (IRL, in magazines, online etc.), you shouldn't be body conscious at all! You're gorgeous, seem to be a great person and have such a great sense of style! Get rid of those uncertainties! You don't deserve them.

You can not afford a Dirndl at this time in Germany just before all the Volksfeste and stuff start ;) I'd like to have such a pretty pink one...especially for free! ;)

  43. I have been reading your blog for a while and I'm not sure if I have commented before. But I had to say....
You are a true natural beauty, those blond and tanned ladies are usually so made up with tanning and bleach blond hair, that there is nothing natural left. I know how you feel, I get those feelings sometimes, mostly when I am p.m.s'n Don't believe it. You are gorgeous and talented and I'm sure if you ask anyone of your friends or readers they will agree. Keep your head up and believe in yourself. BTW, that dress is amazing and looks great on you. ;)

  46. Its weird you call this a Willy Wonka outfit bc when I saw the first picture, the first thought that came to my head was delicious! I love the detail of the bow-tie. I love subtle little accessories that totally make an outfit.

And yes you do have beautiful/yummy friends but I think you are just as beautiful to be in their presence. And if you can't feel good in your own beautiful skin then there isn't much hope for the rest of us that aren't as awesomely gorgeous as you ;)
